Chapter 27 - Escorted home

"Sorry, uhm... have they been apprehended?" Henry asked the officers.

"No," Officer Jude spoke up for the first time.

"Ooh, but have they been identified? There are cameras everywhere, I'm sure you guys could use them to recognize their faces," Henry said.

"They covered their faces well, so the cameras weren't able to capture their faces clearly," Officer Jude said with a stoic look.

"You don't have to worry. We'll escort you guys home if you are too scared," Officer Dave said with a kind smile.

"Thanks, that would go a long way," Henry responded.

Casper and the others were escorted to the police car.

The police car immediately began moving when they got inside it.

"Don't you need our home addresses?" Joe asked which earned a chuckle from Officer Dave.

"We are the police, I have already got your home address information," Officer Dave said.

"Oh!" Joe muttered before keeping mute.

The ride home was quite awkward as Casper and the crew kept quiet most of the ride.

Officer Dave kept telling light-hearted jokes to make the other feel relieved. It was quite clear that he was a jovial person.

Officer Daniel occasionally chuckled from Officer Dave's jokes, while Officer Jude's face was as stoic as ever. Officer Jude's face looked like the world owed him money, as he had a serious look on his face.

As the police car continued driving, they passed through brightly lit streets.

They were dropped off one by one in their various households with Casper being the last to be dropped off.

The Officers came down to explain what happened today. They told the parents not to worry about the incident and they would get to the bottom of it.

After dropping Cassie and the rest, Casper was the last to be dropped off.

The police car pulled up in front of Casper's home and Casper and Officer Dave alighted from the car.

Their steps were steady as it echoed in the surroundings.

Mrs. Margaret could be seen at the front of the house frantically walking around as she made calls with panic in her voice.

Due to her panicked state, she failed to notice Officer Dave and Casper walking towards her.

"Ahem! Ahem! Ahem!" Officer Dave cleared his voice to gain Mrs. Margaret's attention.

"I can't find him, I have called everyone I know and they said they don't know where he is," Mrs. Margaret shouted into her phone.

"You said a police officer dropped off Cassie, right? Then why isn't he here yet?" Mrs. Margaret said with a shaky voice, tears were in her eyes.

Seeing his mother's panicked state, Casper felt bad for making her feel worried.

"His phone is switched off, I can't contact him," she said.

"Uhm! Excuse me ma'am," Officer Dave said as he went to tap Mrs. Margaret's shoulder.

Mrs. Margaret was startled by the touch, and immediately her instinct kicked in.

She coiled her hands into a fist and threw it. Her fist landed squarely on Officer Dave's nose, making him fall on his ass.

A crack was heard and it was quite clear that Officer Dave's nose had cracked as blood came out.

"Mom," Casper shouted as he ran towards Officer Dave who was on the floor.

"Are you okay?" Casper asked.

Officers Jude and Daniel quickly came down from the car as they rushed towards Officer Dave.

"Oh my god! Oh my god! I'm so sorry, I was startled so I acted without thinking twice," Mrs. Margaret shouted as she covered her mouth.

"Your hands in the air, you just attacked an officer of the law!" Officer Jude shouted while pointing his gun at Mrs. Margaret.

"It was a mistake, I'm sorry," Mrs. Margaret pleaded.

"It was a mistake. Please don't shoot my mom," Casper shouted as he ran to his mom shielding her with his body.

"Stand down Officer Jude. Put your gun away," Officer Dave said as he stood up from the floor while clutching his bleeding nose in pain.

Officer Jude hesitated for a moment before complying with Officer Dave's command.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were there," Mrs. Margaret said as she approached Officer Dave. "I think I broke your nose."

"It's okay, ma'am," Officer Dave said with a chuckle before wincing in pain.

"Please, come in. Let me take a look at your nose," Mrs. Margaret offered.

"Uhm! No worries, I'll just go to the doctor," Officer Dave responded with a light smile.

"Please, I wouldn't feel okay if I didn't help in one way or another," Mrs. Margaret pleaded.

"It's ok—" before he could finish his speech he was interrupted by Casper.

"Just accept, she's very persistent," Casper said.

Officer Dave contemplated for a second before agreeing to go in.

"Okay."

"Good! Good! Don't worry I will take care of your nose. Oh! And your buddies can come inside too," Mrs. Margaret said as she led Officer Dave into the house.

Officers Daniel and Jude looked at each other before silently following behind them.

Getting into the house, Mrs. Margaret switched on the light before directing Officer Dave on where he should sit.

"You guys can take your seat wherever you like," Mrs. Margaret said with a smile referring to both Officers Daniel and Jude.

Officer Daniel quickly went over and sat on the couch, while Officer Jude just stood at the door while scanning the house.

"Or you could stand," Mrs. Margaret said with a smile as she saw that Officer Jude was still standing at the door.

"Sorry, he takes his job seriously," Officer Dave said with a chuckle, then winced in pain.

'I really need to stop chuckling,' Officer Dave thought.

"Casper dear, go get my first aid kit," Mrs. Margaret said.

"Okay, mom," Casper responded before going to get the first aid kit.

Getting back, he handed over the first aid kit to his mom.

Taking the first aid kit, Mrs. Margaret first cleaned the blood off his nose.

After cleaning off the blood, Mrs. Margaret gently examined Officer Dave's nose.

She was careful not to touch the nose.

"Hmm… it's definitely broken. It's all swollen up and you're still bleeding a bit," Mrs. Margaret said.

"Casper, go get an ice pack from the fridge," Mrs. Margaret said as she continued examining Officer Dave's nose.

Casper quickly retrieved the ice pack from the fridge before handing it over to his mom.

"Here, gently press this against your nose bridge. It'll help with the swelling and the pain," Mrs. Margaret said while offering the ice pack to Officer Dave.

"Thanks, ma'am," Officer Dave said as he took the ice pack from Mrs. Margaret's hands.

"No need to thank me, after all, I was the one who caused it and this is the least I could do," Mrs. Margaret responded. "Oh! You should probably go to the hospital to examine your bruises. You don't want them to be infected, or do you?"

"Okay, ma'am," Officer Dave said. "Officer Jude will fill you in on why we came over."

Hearing his name being called, Officer Jude walked over and started talking.

"Alright, earlier today…" He began talking.
