Chapter 2 - Status and Babies Training?

After a good nights rest Quinn woke up to find he was still stuck in an infants body.

Quinn: (so it wasn't all a dream? well I suppose I'll have to figure out what tools I have to start figuring out my surroundings. As luck would have it I've read many books on such situations. Without wasting more precious time here goes my golden finger! Activate System!)

...

( so maybe a different word needs to be used? How about Status!)

And with that thought a image of a scroll appeared in Quinn's mind.

Quinn: (Yes! the fabled Golden finger I am a Lucky man! .. Hold on do I seriously not have a name? How does that work did this bodies parents not name him? Does that mean there is a naming day ceremony that will happen later? Being a baby most my attributes are low no surprise but spirit looks really good! My old knowledge on meditation did come in handy it looks like. Look at that a SPIRIT ROOT! Does this mean cultivation is a reality in this world? That is a total score! Parallel processing how did I get that? when did my soul fragment? That must have been that painful feeling I had! Wait but if my soul fragmented how did I survive? ... No its not survival it was more like a replacement after all this body must have had a soul from before. What a painful way for a child to go.)

With his mind turning towards more solemn thoughts Quinn didn't realize Quan coming into the room. Quan seeing his son in the crib had a large smile on his face as he learned the night before from Hua his son survived the pea's.

Quan: (After his first son's death he was worried that the soul might be as fragile as so many people claimed. However with his asperations for greatness and prayers to heaven for a strong boy he "knew" his bloodline wouldn't betray him. That he would have a boy with the strength to change destiny!)

While thinking this Quan went and picked up his boy.

Quan: HAHAHA! Yes my son look at you with a strong divine soul you will carry the Bao name to new heights!

Quinn: AHHH! (When did this guy come in who is he and what is he shouting at me?)

Quan: Now that you have survived I can name you; I was scared to name you after losing our first son. But that is in the past now what do I name you? How about Qi? Yes Bao Qi will be your new name! This name meaning "positive energy" will take our family into a good direction!

Qi: (I can't believe I got transmigrated without the ability to understand the native language. Was it because the child didn't know the language himself? Did something on my status just change?)

Having not closed his status panel yet Quinn noticed that his name had changed from Unnamed to Qi.

Qi: (Are you kidding me did this guy just name me? Does that make this excitable man my father? Hold on this defiantly doesn't seem like a naming ceremony; what gives?)

Quan: Hua come Qi is awake lets make sure he has breakfast and I'll start teaching him afterwards!

Hua hearing Quan from the other room knew Qi was their son's new name and entered the room after the call. As She walked into the room the scene of the father holding his son seemed so surreal to Hua. She truly believed that last night would be their sons last day with them. With Quan being so adamite to feed his son the soul splitting peas on his first birthday. Quan so determined to give their son a chance at getting ahead of others his age so that the children from the established families wouldn't be better than Qi.

Hua: I'll Feed him but, what do you mean you will teach him after? Little Qi is six months old as of yesterday.

As Hua took Qi; Quan excitedly ran into the other room making a ruckus. After hearing some stuff fall over and pages flipping Quan came back into the room carrying two books.

Quan: Don't worry he will learn quickly I'll read with him so he learns. Now should we start him on the basics of alchemy or the basics of rune crafting?

Hua: You must be joking he is a Baby how will he follow along with what your saying? Qi doesn't know any words he hasn't even learned how to say mom.

Quan stops and looks at the books he brought and dawns a look of confusion; and with a slow understanding nods his head. Then with a serious and very mater-of-fact statement speaks.

Quan: Hmmm.. your right better start with the identification of spirit plants it has pictures to help him understand.

Then he runs into the other room again to ruffle through the books once more to find the book on how to identify spirit plants.

Hua with a stunned expression shakes her head and begins to feed Qi.

Qi: ( Well I'm not super comfortable with this way of feeding but I can't be picky. IF I don't eat well I will stunt my growth making surviving in this new world even harder and I really don't want that.)

Regardless what age he was in a previous life Qi knew he was indeed an infant in this world and would have to eat whatever his new parents would give him. As soon as Qi finished eating and getting burped by Hua; Quan snatched him away and placed him on his lap to start education him on spirit plants.

Qi: (What is this he is showing me? A book with pictures? Ahhh Must be a alphabet book using pictures of different things that match up to the alphabet; like A is for Apple. Here I was not long ago trying to think of a way to broaden my under standing of this world. Now good old dad is here to help me in learning with some books. I better pay close attention to the lettering and picture to try and understand the language and spelling.)

Quan: Now Qi your father is going to teach you so many things! look here in this book this first picture is of Mundane spirit rice it is the lowest quality of first grade spirit rice; and the only spirit rice father can afford. It has trace amounts of spiritual energy in it witch is good for low level qi refiners to supplement their cultivation. Spirit rice can be found in places with spirit energy supported by first grade spirit veins; most of witch will have damp climates or often times sitting water similar to a rice paddies. Easily identified by their short and bumpy with a slight brown color and minimal presents of spiritual energy.

Quan: Here is a lantern lily its also a first grade spirit plant used in making low grade Alchemy pills for both cultivation and minor healing. Found in sparse forest and meadows with lots of sun where they collect the light energy of the sun; and store it in the Anther of the flower causing it to glow. One should know the petals also hold some of this energy casing a slight glow as well. This glow and it vibrant red color is a good way to distinguish this flower from regular Lilies; along with trace amounts of spirit energy cultivators can sense on this plant. In fact once you have the ability to sense spiritual energy most spirit plants can be found with this sense; as they nearly all have spirit energy on them. Do you follow me so far Qi?

Qi : (Why do these all look like plants? Also why is there no single large letter for me to associate with when learning these words like the alphabet books from my world? Also why are there so many symbols on every page? This "Is" a children's book right? ..Please?)

Initially Qi looking seriously at the book with furrowed brows he looked focus and attentive. How ever he was simply baffled on what he was suppose to focus on when learning with the man named Quan. However he was determined to learn as the sooner he learned the language of this world the better off Qi would be.

Hua Standing to the side watched the two focusing on the book that would be far too hard for a child to understand with no foundation in letters. But as she watched she wondered if there might have really been something different with this child; who looked like a little scholar in his fathers lap. Seemingly determined to understand the content of the book he was being shown.

Quan was excited to see his son so focused. He evened started wondering when he could start teaching this boy without the "picture books".

At the same time all Qi could think about was what happened to his " A is for Apple".

Hua: ( Maybe Qi was born with a Divine soul? Perhaps my cultivator husband will no longer lament his weakness as a lower level Qi Refining cultivator. Hua did notice a slight tear at the corner of Qi's eye seemingly born of frustration at not understanding something?)  "Sigh" .. Status.

Hua: As a mortal without the ability to even open her meridians through Blood qi refinement. All I can learn are these mortal skills used for house work and finding a cultivator husband. There is no way I can protect Qi from this world let alone his half crazed father. "Sigh" the most I can do is make sure he is fed well and maybe try to show him some real kids books. They should be easier for him to understand.

Hua stood to the side watching the man and baby go through the book and "learn" about spiritual plants and how to identify them. With a concerned thought that this book was created for young cultivators and martial artist to begin studying when they started opening there meridians at the age of thirteen. Though some would try to get a early start at the books at the early age of ten. Still a long way from 6 months old and zero words known.

...

After a Nap that took Qi from his morning "learning" into the afternoon; he was a bit despondent about the large difference in learning between the old world and this new one. But one must persevere and do their best after all this is a cultivation world as his spirit root would suggest. All the times he has ever read a book on such worlds they were harsh and cruel worlds that only respected strength. So his first task is growing up! To do just that he needs time and sustenance; as a baby the sustenance is one call away!

Qi: "Ahem" Whaaaa!

Hua came into the room after hearing Qi was awake to do what mothers do. Feed and care for her child. As Qi ate a problem arises for him to face one all babies have to deal with some time.

Qi: (O no I did not think of this issue till now and I have to deal with it quickly! As a baby I can't deal with this on my own but how do I communicate with my mother so she knows my need!)

Hua: So your done eating?! Why are you concentrating so intently on your mother for? Are you simply amazed at how pretty your mother is?

Qi: ( Even if I could use gestures to try and indicate my need I don't understand her words I wouldn't know if we were on the same page or not!)

Hua: Why do you look sad sweetie is something wrong? Whoa are you pooping? Such a stinky one don't worry mother will change you.

Yes the call of nature a normal occurrence for a baby that is too young to develop a memory of such an event. Also too young to feel shame of such an event; However Qi was a transmigrated soul and fully capable of keeping this memory.

Qi: " aihhh" ( I feel dirty! It is sticking to my legs! Please mother change me! This is truly uncomfortable! How many times will I suffer this before I am able to indicate my needs or be capable of looking after them myself?)

After changing Qi's diaper Hua remembered how determined her Husband was to teach their son so she decided to help her son learn letters. As she put Qi back in the crib she stepped into the next room to grab a book.

Qi: (I do not think ill ever get rid of the feeling of my poop being all over me.. I fully understand why most children cry after they poop themselves... O look mothers coming back.)

As he seen his mother coming back Qi was hopeful for a distraction. Only to feel a pit drop into he stomach as his mother brought a book.

Qi: ( No! The huge learning curb between our worlds! How long will it be for me to comprehend this worlds language? )

Hua picked up Qi and sat down with him while opening the book.

Hua: Lets start with letters shall we on this first page we have "A" is for Ant. See the shape of "A" and this is a picture of an ant?

As Hua Started Qi's hands slowly brushed around the page as though touching something familiar

Hua: O no why are you crying are you scared of this book?

Qi: "Sniff" (A is for Apple! or what ever this insect looking thing is I still have a real chance to learn! NO don't you dare take this book away from me it has so much for me to learn!)

Hua: So the book makes you cry but you don't want me to take the book away? Such a strange baby. Well lets keep going through this book then.

Qi with tears of joy listened to his mother while she spoke the sounds and letters of the book out loud to her child. A much Slower and achievable way for someone to start understanding a language.
