Chapter 105 - Chapter 105: Stay Alert!

After receiving the news from Strange, Peter decided to immediately report to the Avengers. He told Uncle Ben he'd be home late today, then, while organizing his thoughts, he swung to the Avengers Tower.

To his surprise, besides Captain America and Tony, Black Panther T'Challa was also there.

"We've already gotten the general information from the video J.A.R.V.I.S. sent back," Tony rubbed his temples. He instinctively wasn't too fond of that Dr. Strange: "I never knew Earth had a completely useless sorcerer protecting it. Too bad Thor's not here, otherwise I'd definitely have to ask that blond little prince if he reported to... what's his name? The Sorcerer Supreme when he entered the country."

"The key now is that Loki's scepter, another Infinity Stone, is in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s hands. And what happened today is enough to prove that S.H.I.E.L.D. cannot be trusted."

T'Challa's voice carried a natural gentleness, neither annoying nor hard to hear. As a foreigner, he clearly pointed out the biggest problem exposed by the attack on Silk's family.

There was a big problem within S.H.I.E.L.D.; they couldn't even protect the safety of their own agents.

But Peter was also concerned about something else.

"Guys, didn't you notice? The Cosmic Cube is one of the stones, so Loki came with another stone, and he even brought an army."

Peter told them the most troublesome thing: "Someone is collecting these stones, and one of them is still on Earth."

Captain America and Tony exchanged glances. This was exactly what they worried about most: the next possible alien invasion of Earth. If they viewed Loki's previous invasion as Loki's personal revenge, then Peter had just given them another reason for an alien invasion.

Captain America looked at Tony; he knew exactly what Tony was planning, so he answered directly: "There's no way Nick Fury will hand over the scepter."

"But the fact is, Nick Fury can no longer control all of S.H.I.E.L.D. The scepter isn't safe at all in S.H.I.E.L.D., Cap."

Captain America sighed. He didn't retort that it would be safer with the Avengers, just looked at Tony: "But we can't just raid S.H.I.E.L.D."

"Then we can steal it. That wouldn't be raiding, right?"

"Tony..."

"Don't lecture me, Steve. This is about world safety. We can't put everything on this already problematic S.H.I.E.L.D."

Tony Stark looked at Captain America: "We have to take responsibility."

At this very moment, Nick Fury had no idea that Tony had already set his sights on Loki's scepter, which had yet to yield any results from research. In his Washington headquarters, he was furious, unleashing a barrage of expletives.

"A Level 4 S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, her identity information has no protection whatsoever? Anyone can just look up her file and kidnap her family? Is S.H.I.E.L.D. full of useless imbeciles?!"

The eyepatch-wearing "black egg" ranted at the Level 8 agents present, both in person and via video conference: "Last month, I guaranteed the Russians that S.H.I.E.L.D.'s security was even stricter than your Lubyanka's. Now we've become MI6, riddled with KGB agents?"

"The agent in charge of information has been held accountable," a Level 8 agent said awkwardly, but Nick Fury just chuckled. Many might think this was a work error, but Nick Fury was certain it wasn't; this was undoubtedly a serious information leak.

However, someone interrupted Nick Fury's continued outburst. He saw Alexander Pierce, the World Security Council's S.H.I.E.L.D. liaison and his only direct superior, standing outside the door.

"I'll deal with you all later. Coulson, come to my office in a bit."

With that, Nick Fury left the conference room and walked over to Pierce. Pierce put an arm around Fury's shoulder, talking as they walked.

"I heard all about it, Nick. This isn't normal. It doesn't look like a typical information leak, what do you think?"

"Same here, sir. The whole thing looks like someone gave it the green light."

Facing his old superior and officer, Fury was very attentive. Pierce patted his shoulder: "Whose people do you think it could be? The Russians?"

"Well..." Fury scratched his ear: "Ever since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Russians haven't had the ability to challenge us."

S.H.I.E.L.D. was nominally an agency under the United Nations, but essentially, it was an organization led by the US and spearheaded by Britain and France. The Russians naturally wouldn't join. Theoretically, the Russians indeed had this possibility, but the problem was, there was no motive. Moreover, once discovered by S.H.I.E.L.D., their limited intelligence network would suffer a huge blow.

So, Nick Fury didn't believe the Russians were behind this. Of course, Alexander Pierce had other ideas.

"I recently received intelligence that the Russians are planning to form a superpowered team to rival the Avengers. It's not just the Russians; the East Asians and the British are doing the same."

Nick Fury couldn't help but show a troubled expression.

"But the Avengers aren't under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s jurisdiction, sir."

"That's what you're going to do."

Pierce's attitude was clear: "Bring the Avengers into S.H.I.E.L.D. Tell the Avengers that if they don't join S.H.I.E.L.D., they essentially have no law enforcement authority."

"Oh, and can you put Scorpion's detention location in S.H.I.E.L.D.? Maybe we could use someone like him."

Nick Fury frowned, watching Pierce leave, and finally headed to his office, where Coulson had been waiting for a long time.

"Sir, you called for me."

"What do you think about replacing Silk's family with LMDs, just in case?"

Coulson thought for a moment before realizing Fury was actually asking him. He replied, "Perhaps asking for their wishes would be more appropriate."

"What about Scorpion? Pierce seems to want to recruit him, saying we can always use desperate people."

"Well..." Coulson shrugged helplessly: "We should ask the victims."

Fury, who had thrown both problems to Coulson, nodded, and finally asked one more question.

"Can you and your team take charge of investigating this matter?"

Coulson was about to agree, but then he suddenly remembered something.

"I'm afraid not, sir. Spider-Man said that he sensed Ward is dangerous."

Nick Fury turned and stared at Coulson for a long time.
