Chapter 100 - Chapter 100: Dire Straits

Scorpion tore up the pavement near the Moon family's house with his metal tail and then leapt out of the sewer. There had been S.H.I.E.L.D. detectors in the sewer, but unfortunately, his tail emitted an EMP, crippling them along with all nearby electronics.

A family living near the Moon residence had actually been secretly replaced by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, their purpose being to protect her family's safety should her identity ever be compromised. They immediately emerged from the house with weapons, aiming at Scorpion, yelling at him not to approach.

"Lethal force is authorized if the subject poses a threat."

The team leader wasn't worried about lack of backup; as soon as the surrounding circuits failed, S.H.I.E.L.D. would definitely be sending people. The only concern was whether they'd arrive in time. This was their greatest worry. The leader raised his energy rifle, aiming at Scorpion.

He looked like a high-threat target. He resembled someone wearing high-tech armor similar to Iron Man's, but the dark green coating of his armor didn't look benevolent at all. He also hadn't completely covered himself; his helmet exposed his chin, and the upper half of his face was only protected by orange goggles. The goggles were pieced together from triangles of various sizes, looking like an insect's compound eyes, constantly fixed on them.

"I imagine you're all wondering what use this protection is."

Scorpion said, raising his green metal tail, "But time is short, so I don't have time to play with you."

As Scorpion spoke, his tail glowed green, then a powerful magnetic force generated. All metal objects on the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were pulled towards him. The easiest to snatch were the weapons in their hands, which were directly torn away. Then, with a slight lift of his scorpion tail, these S.H.I.E.L.D. weapons fired upon the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, piercing their chests.

"This is too easy."

Scorpion shook his head, then walked to the Moon family's door. A few EMP-resistant automatic turrets had just risen when Scorpion's tail sprayed highly corrosive liquid, completely melting them. Then, he punched through the door and tore it open.

He didn't have much time, so taking hostages was his leverage against Spider-Man and the Avengers. Scorpion knew this well. He activated his armor's infrared capabilities and looked around. He had to admit the Moon family had some brains; they hadn't run to the basement but had gone to the second floor, planning to jump out the window to the first floor to escape.

"Where do you think you're going, Mr. Albert Moon Nishi??"

Punching directly through the house wall, Scorpion's metal tail first tossed the husband, who was blocking the way, back into the house, followed by the wife and son. The three were roughly thrown to the ground. Scorpion walked back, lamenting, "You should all resent your daughter. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't have become like this and sought revenge on you."

"Whatever Cindy did... I'm sure she wouldn't do anything bad," Albert Moon said, propping himself up to stand, staring at Scorpion. "If she did something bad that warrants your revenge, it's definitely because you weren't a good person to begin with."

Scorpion froze for a moment at these words, then burst into laughter. After he had his fill, he sighed, "You're right, Mr. Albert. So, I'm going to do what a bad guy should do."

Scorpion's tail rose again, its nozzle opening, pointed at Albert. But just before it sprayed lethal acid, a web stuck to his tail. He felt a force pulling him.

"Silk" stood at her doorstep, hands gripping the web, pulling hard.

"Get out of my house!"

She exerted all her strength, yanking Scorpion's tail. Scorpion, frowning slightly, reached out and grabbed the web stuck to his tail, pulling hard.

"You foolish girl! Our powers are of the same origin! And scorpions are natural predators of spiders!"

A stronger force yanked Cindy from the doorway. If she hadn't let go in time, she might have been pulled directly in front of Scorpion and punched. Releasing and landing, Cindy quickly moved in front of Scorpion, preparing to punch his unguarded chin. But at that moment, the prickle of her spider-sense told her something was wrong. Doing a hasty backflip, she barely dodged the poisoned stinger that shot out from Scorpion's chest armor.

"The people who experimented on me told me this is called 'feral sense.' A scorpion's isn't as sensitive as a spider's, but it's not useless either. It tells me when it's best to spring my trap."

Scorpion smiled, his tail already aimed at Cindy's family. "And it tells me how to deal with you."

Cindy instinctively fired webs at her family. Unexpectedly for Scorpion, his usually infallible acid failed to corrode the web she launched this time, but that didn't impede his actions—the best way to counter spider-sense is to force the spider to make a move that will be hit, even if they know it's dangerous.

Even though Cindy sensed danger, it didn't prevent Scorpion from grabbing her by the throat. After all, besides two hands, Scorpion also had an extra tail for surprise attacks.

"Deal with one first... or wait for Spider-Man to join in... now?!"

His "scorpion sense" detected the incoming danger, but there was no time to stop it. The Moon family's roof suddenly shattered. Iron Man descended from the sky, directly stepping on Scorpion, his foot thrusters scorching Scorpion's face. Then he grabbed Scorpion's tail and flew him out of the Moon house. This sudden turn of events made Scorpion gnash his teeth. His tail instantly extended countless sharp barbs, piercing the Iron Man suit.

"You're asking for death, Stark!"

"That's what I'm telling you, Gargan!"

The voice from the suit wasn't Iron Man's at all. Spider-Man, sensing danger, had detached from the suit the moment he did. Then he grabbed Scorpion in mid-air. Scorpion, in turn, laughed wildly at Spider-Man. "And then? Kid, you planning to punch me in the face?"

Peter, free-falling with Scorpion, could certainly sense the danger, but his attitude was clear.

"I just told you what I was going to do, Scorpion."

White lightning flashed around Spider-Man. Then, a dazzling light flickered in mid-air, a massive spherical lightning bolt exploded, and black smoke engulfed the two of them, plummeting vertically hundreds of meters from high in the sky to the ground.
