Chapter 38 - A Night of Tears and Lingering Scars

I stumbled out of Ethan's house, my vision blurred by tears. The cool night air hit my face, but it did nothing to soothe the burning humiliation and pain radiating through my entire body.

"Elara, wait!" Seraphina called, her heels clicking rapidly on the pavement behind me. "Slow down!"

I couldn't slow down. I needed to get away—from the party, from the pitying looks, from the memory of Rhys's fingers around my throat. Most of all, I needed to escape the confusion of why my wolf still whimpered for him even after everything he'd done.

Seraphina caught up to me, gently gripping my elbow. "Hey," she said softly, "let's get you home, okay?"

I nodded, unable to speak past the lump in my throat. Jake, who had followed us out, caught up and stood awkwardly nearby.

"I can drive you," he offered, glancing worriedly at my tear-streaked face.

"Thanks," Seraphina answered for me, wrapping a protective arm around my shoulders.
