Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: Wavering Between Hesitation and Indecision

Li De looked down at the crowd, whose emotions had been stirred, their eyes no longer cold or vigilant. He smiled inwardly.

Silently, he increased the mana input into the Charm spell's magic model, keeping it at the brink of its limits.

His exceptional mana affinity allowed him to control every bit of mana with precision.

Even vampires with decent magic immunity couldn't resist the derivative applications of the Charm spell, let alone these untalented humans.

Moreover, nearly every promise Li De made was something ordinary humans in the Glory Main Plane yearned for. Combined with other factors, the effect far exceeded his expectations.

By now, the sky had fully brightened.

As his words faded, the sun just happened to cast a ray of light from afar. Under everyone's gaze, the sunlight fell upon Li De.

The crowd below instantly quieted upon seeing this scene.

It was common knowledge among all humans that the sun was the natural enemy of vampires.

At this moment, even some civilians showed panicked expressions. If this vampire city lord were gravely injured by the sunlight, would he retract his promises?

But what happened next was beyond everyone's expectations.

Li De slightly spread his arms. Contrary to the legends where exposure to sunlight would weaken vampires or cause their bodies to rot, he instead wore an expression of enjoyment.

"It is a warm day."

"I like the sun as much as you do."

Whoosh~

The uproar caused by Li De's two sentences was more sensational than all the previous ones combined.

Vampires are not afraid of the sun?!

This scene, which defied common sense, left everyone feeling dazed.

Soon, many people came to their senses. Looking at Li De again, a large portion of their original fear had vanished.

The Saintlight Vampires were truly different from other vampires—they were not afraid of sunlight!!

Fear stems from the unknown. Through word of mouth, the terror and evil of vampires had been deeply rooted in every human mind.

But after encountering the Saintlight Vampires, everyone found their preconceptions didn't match reality, reducing their hostility and aversion towards the Saintlight Vampires to a baseline level.

In the long run, it could be foreseen that harmonious coexistence between humans and vampires might not be an impossible feat.

The bloodline of the Vampire Progenitor granted Li De immunity to sunlight. After putting on a small show, he gained immense prestige.

At this moment, Li De was seen as a mythical figure in the eyes of the crowd.

He shattered people's entrenched beliefs.

Vampires could live under the sun too!!

"After a night of flying, everyone must be tired."

"I will have people assign you houses. Subsequently, the land allocation plan will be posted in the square, visible to everyone."

"I am the Clan Leader of the Saintlight Vampires, Kachar. My subjects, I hope Dawn City will be with you in the future."

After speaking, Li De gave a very gentlemanly bow and turned to leave the stage.

Unfortunately, there was no tradition of applause in Glory. Everyone simply watched him leave in stunned silence.

The shock they experienced in such a short time left them unable to fully process everything.

There was both worry about the Saintlight Vampires and anticipation for tomorrow and the future. These complex emotions made the atmosphere of the crowd delicate.

Daytime was very unfriendly to vampires. Other bloodline descendants didn't possess Li De's sunlight immunity.

Many vampires lurking in dark corners had already deteriorated significantly. Fortunately, all the vampires in Dawn City were intermediate-level professionals above Level 5, greatly enhancing their resistance to sunlight.

If they were newly turned vampires, they wouldn't be able to move around during the day at all.

Under Li De's supervision, the prepared vampires, organized by family units, led the crowd to the Southern District.

The crowd had gone without rest for a full day and night, and most were extremely exhausted.

Apart from the vampires who had returned to the border, all the vampires in Dawn City participated in this housing allocation for the humans.

The unknown was the source of fear. Once everyone became familiar with the vampires, the imagined fear naturally dissipated. Although fear remained, it was clearly much less than when they first arrived.

Fortunately, Li De had already established corresponding rules, resolving the housing issue in less than two Sun-hours.

By ten in the morning, everyone had been assigned housing.

Dawn City fell into a tranquil silence.

Only in certain shaded buildings were vampires still standing guard.

Oli and Rekel were assigned a house together since neither had families.

It was a two-story building. The second floor had two rooms, each accommodating two people.

Thus, this two-story building housed eight people. A family of three could be allocated two rooms.

After Rekel pushed open the door, he was slightly astonished to see the fully furnished, clean, and tidy interior. He originally thought having a bed here would be good enough.

"Rekel, brother, is this really assigned to us?"

Oli still felt like he was in a dream. Originally, he thought that after the vampires appeared, they would be drained of blood and killed as the legends said.

But unexpectedly, the other party claimed to be Saintlight Vampires and forcibly brought them to this unknown castle.

He didn't trust these vampires who spoke sweet words. Even after arriving at Dawn City, he believed this was just a vampire conspiracy. How could these evil demons possibly not harm humans?

But what followed was beyond his expectations.

There was no horrifying sight of corpses everywhere; instead, there was only a clean and peaceful city.

During the registration process, their belongings weren't seized, and these vampires treated them politely, as if they were knowledgeable dignitaries. It was an excellent experience.

Later, they were informed that he could be allocated ten acres of land, and in the future, they could study knowledge and magic here.

It was incredible.

The speech by that vampire city lord deeply moved him. Even now, after being assigned a house, he still couldn't believe it.

"Oli, I won't say much. Perhaps this is still a vampire conspiracy, or perhaps there really are Saintlight Vampires distinct from evil vampires in this world.

"But either way, we don't have much room to resist. As the gods say, time will reveal the true nature of demons, and sages will become angels.

"What we need to do now is not resist but try to integrate. If these vampires are truly evil, then we should inform everyone.

"If they really are Saintlight Vampires, posing no harm to us, and this Dawn City is as Lord Kachar described—far from war and danger—it might not be a bad thing for the residents of the town.

"Eric Town is too close to the border. Since its establishment, how many times has Eric Town been invaded by Beastmen? How many of our friends have died at the hands of Beastmen?

"To escape the Beastmen and own a piece of land is the most desired thing for those of us living on the border."

Rekel's tone was deep as he turned to look through the glass window at the vampires hiding in the shade on the street.

If it weren't for that year when the Beastmen invasion killed his parents, he wouldn't have left Eric Town to become a mercenary.

If he could truly own a piece of land and avoid the threat of war, he would be willing to give everything.

Oli nodded somewhat blankly. Everything that had happened today had profoundly shaken his beliefs.

In fact, most people were similar to Oli. Fear of vampires made them panic, but the rhetoric of the Saintlight Vampires also sparked hope in their hearts.

Their moods wavered between hesitation and indecision.

Knock, knock, knock~

The knocking interrupted the thoughts of the two.

Rekel stood up and swiftly drew his longsword, which he valued as much as his life, and which the vampires hadn't confiscated.

"Who's there?"

"Is that Rekel? I am the Clan Leader of the Saintlight Vampires, Kachar."c
