Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

Meanwhile,Kirah who's goal was on one thing for this weekend had cut down on her own comforts, ready to make one of her long awaited plans to come into reality. She'd be saving for over the past years just to make this happen _ a fresh start,a new home, and above all a better life for her family.

She sat in the real estate office with the agent, going through the final documents and transferring the balance payment. Her fingers trembled slightly, not from fear, but from the weight of long-awaited achievement. By the time she walked out with the keys to the three-bedroom apartment in her bag, Kirah exhaled deeply, the kind of breath that only comes when dreams start becoming tangible.

The place was ready. Freshly painted walls, tiled floors that gleamed under the lights, modern kitchen fittings, and a sense of calm luxury that made every sacrifice worth it. Now all that remained was moving in.

There wasn't much packing to do at the old house. Most of the furniture and electronics were outdated or damaged, and Kirah had already planned to restock everything. She was ready to spend, and not a single dime of it felt wasted when it was for her mother, father, and younger siblings.

To get things rolling, she called her younger sister Mayowa, a nurse, for help. Mayowa was elated. She had known Kirah was planning to relocate them but never thought it would happen this fast.

"Wait, tomorrow?" Mayowa exclaimed when Kirah told her.

Kirah grinned. "Yes, Mayowa. The house is ready. Let's get everything we need today so we can move them in by Sunday... Tomorrow "

With no time to waste, the two sisters set off for a long day of shopping. From kitchen appliances to mattresses, bedsheets, curtains, bathroom fittings, and groceries—they bought everything. By late evening as of 07:27pm , they had a delivery truck loaded and headed directly to the new apartment.

Mayowa was the first family member to see the house. When she stepped in, her eyes widened.

"Kirah... this place is beautiful," she whispered, walking into the spacious living room.

Kirah, watching her sister soak it in, felt a sense of pride swell in her chest. "This is our new home. Tomorrow, everyone moves in."

They returned to the old house late that night, exhausted. As they pushed the door open, Mayowa could barely hold it in. She rushed into the living room where their mom, dad, and siblings were relaxing.

"Guess what! We're moving tomorrow!" she squealed.

"Tomorrow?!" their mother said, sitting upright.

"Yes," Kirah confirmed, walking in behind her. "Everything is ready. Just personal items need to be packed. We're leaving behind most of these things."

Her father looked at her, a rare emotion flickering in his eyes. "You did this, Kirah?"

"Yes, Daddy. It's time we all lived somewhere we can be proud of."

The joy in the small, dim living room was infectious. Her younger brother Denzel, clapped and hugged her; her mother beamed and started talking about packing, but Kirah and Mayowa laughed gently.

"No need to pack all those old pots and pans, Mama. We're replacing everything," Kirah said.

They all went to bed that night with hearts full of anticipation and gratitude. For Kirah, the apartment wasn't just a structure—it was proof. Proof that a young woman, even without privilege or connections, could work hard, rise up, and take care of those she loves.

Sunday morning came fast. The family woke early, buzzing with energy. Their mother, already up and dragging old kitchen items into boxes, was gently scolded by Kirah.

"We don't need those anymore, Mama. We're not carrying old problems into a new chapter. Just pack some of your clothes and personal stuff."

As the moving truck arrived, the family lined up outside with their bags. The neighbors peeked out, surprised to see them finally leaving the worn-down flat. The atmosphere was emotional but triumphant.

Kirah helped her mother into the front seat of the truck, then climbed in beside her, ready to drive them into the future.

Mama kept singing some of her favorite christian songs as she couldn't contain the joy in her chest.

"I have seen the lord's goodness, his mercies and compassion, I have seen the lord's goodness hallelujah praise the Lord..".....
