I felt my conscience prick with guilt as I thought about Kyle’s words. While it was frightening that he had pointed a revolver at me, I could also understand where he was coming from. The man had just opened the door after concluding that I was not, in fact, Eleanora Aiselle, only to find the dragon that he’d been searching for had imprinted on me, an unknown woman. The detective must have been equally as rattled and responded in self-defense at the sight of the mana swirling around the room.
After each taking a moment to calm ourselves down, I could tell Kyle was ready to finally get some answers. For my part, I was hoping to finally clear the air between us and maybe—just maybe, come out of this situation without ending up in jail.
