"Is something wrong?"

Jaden Yuki was a bit curious how Alexis Rhodes found him, but more than that, he wanted to know why she came looking for him.

However.

Such a direct question made Alexis, who had been composed, instantly embarrassed.

"Uh, I heard that for this practical exam, you're going to duel Bastion Misawa from Ra Yellow, is that right?"

Alexis coughed to ease her embarrassment.

"Ah, a lot of people know about that, right?"

Jaden Yuki nodded.

Many people had already heard about the monthly exam next week.

And many were also paying attention to the duel between Bastion Misawa and Jaden Yuki.

Although Bastion Misawa wasn't well-known, Jaden Yuki was the focus of many students in the academy.

He was almost an idol, in fact.

After all, being able to make a name for himself in the dueling world at such a young age, and now joining Duel Academy as a student.

This made them feel a lot closer to him.

So, most people in the academy were well aware of the duel between Jaden Yuki and Bastion Misawa.

"That..."

Hearing Jaden Yuki's reply, Alexis became even more embarrassed.

She pursed her lips, wanting to say something, but seemed very conflicted.

"Do you want to duel me?" Jaden Yuki seemed to understand something.

"Ah, yes, that's right, but I don't have my Duel Disk with me now, so next time will be fine."

Alexis clenched her fist and coughed, then turned around and walked out of the forest with her hands behind her back.

"Oh... that's right."

"Hmm?" Jaden Yuki tilted his head, looking at Alexis who had her back to him.

"Uh, good luck."

Muttering softly with a red face, Alexis fled the area as if escaping.

Watching Alexis leave.

Jaden Yuki picked at his ear, looking bewildered.

"What did she just say?"

"I don't know, her voice was too soft." Yubel shook her head.

"Is that so?"

Jaden Yuki didn't dwell on it.

He yawned, then lay back on the grass, basking in the sun leisurely.

Soon, the day of the monthly exam arrived.

After the written exam in the morning.

In the afternoon.

Many examinees had already gathered in the duel room, waiting for the practical assessment to begin.

On the duel field, assessments were proceeding one after another.

As the assessments ended, many examinees chose not to leave the testing ground.

Instead, they took seats in the spectator stands, waiting for the final assessment.

"Alright, the final assessment is about to begin."

"It's a duel between Bastion Misawa from Ra Yellow, and Jaden Yuki from Obelisk Blue."

Professor Vellian Crowler held a microphone, standing below the stage, acting as the referee.

On the dueling field, Jaden Yuki and Bastion Misawa had already equipped their Duel Disks, waiting for the duel to start.

"Whew... Jaden Yuki, it's an honor to duel you!"

Bastion Misawa took a deep breath, easing his inner excitement.

He looked at Jaden Yuki, his eyes full of exhilaration.

"Ah, good luck to both of us." Jaden Yuki responded with a smile and a nod.

In the corridor above the spectator stands.

Alexis Rhodes leaned against the railing, silently watching Jaden Yuki and Bastion Misawa on the field, exchanging and shuffling their decks.

"It seems I still made it to observe this duel."

Zane Truesdale walked over from the side, standing next to Alexis, watching the upcoming match on the stage.

"Zane, Senior? Is your third-year exam over?" Alexis looked at Zane Truesdale with some surprise, apparently not expecting the top student from a higher grade to be here.

"Yes, I heard Jaden Yuki was dueling, so I came to watch."

Zane Truesdale nodded in response.

Alexis smiled, her gaze returning to the dueling stage.

"DUEL!"

At this moment, the two on the dueling field were ready.

[Jaden Yuki: LP 4000]

[Bastion Misawa: LP 4000]

"It's started."

Zane Truesdale watched Jaden Yuki and Bastion Misawa, who were ready, and said in a deep voice, "I heard that this student named Bastion Misawa is a famous 'brainy' type among the new students."

"Before a duel, he researches his opponent's deck and then formulates a detailed strategy based on it."

"However, dueling relying only on brains is far from enough..." Alexis propped her face with her hand, a slight smile playing on her lips.

"Hmm?"

Zane Truesdale looked at Alexis's smile with some surprise; it seemed to be the first time he had seen Alexis Rhodes smile because of a boy.

"Ah, cough... I mean, Jaden Yuki has extraordinary drawing luck and strength; just countering his deck might not be enough." Alexis hastily explained.

Zane Truesdale nodded, seemingly understanding, and turned his gaze to the dueling field.

"I Normal Summon [Elemental HERO Stratos]!"

A summoning circle rose on Jaden Yuki's field.

Stratos's blue figure appeared before Jaden Yuki, displaying strong muscles.

[Elemental HERO Stratos]

[Level: 4]

[ATK: 1800 / DEF: 300]

"Then, according to Stratos's effect, I add [Elemental HERO Shadow Mist] from my Deck to my hand."

"I Set two cards, and end my turn."

As the two Set cards rose on the field, Jaden Yuki ended his turn.

"He ended his first turn so normally?" Alexis showed a surprised expression.

She had expected Jaden Yuki, based on her impression of him, to set up some flashy plays in the first turn.

But now, he had only simply summoned an [Elemental HERO Stratos]?

"Or is there something more noteworthy in his backrow?"

"What could the Set cards be?"

"A Trap Card, or [Mask Change]?"

Alexis furrowed her brow, thinking.

"My turn!"

Bastion Misawa drew a card from the top of his Deck.

Looking at the drawn card, Bastion Misawa loudly declared: "Jaden Yuki, let me show you the new deck I've researched over these past days to defeat you!"

"I Summon [Hydrogeddon]!"

A light effect flashed.

A monster gushing brown mud from all over its body materialized from beneath the earth.

Its four giant claws gripped the ground, emitting a harsh, low growl.

[Hydrogeddon]

[Level: 4]

[ATK: 1600]

[DEF: 1000]

A Hydrogeddon deck?

Jaden Yuki was slightly startled.

If it was the Hydrogeddon deck from the original series, frankly, it posed no threat to a HERO deck.

But looking at Bastion Misawa's confident expression.

Jaden Yuki pondered for a moment, deciding to first see where Bastion Misawa's confidence came from.

Then...

A sinister smile involuntarily curled on his lips.

That smile clearly fell into Alexis's eyes.

She couldn't help but shiver.

Alexis knew.

When he made that kind of smile, it meant...

Bastion Misawa was probably in for some bad luck.
