Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Dugu Yan Tempers Her Body with Ice and Fire

Because of the unique properties of the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and the Fiery Apricot Delicate Leaf, Dugu Bo remembered them very clearly. In the entire Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well, there was only one of each of these herbs.

He had once attempted to approach them, but even with his formidable spirit power, he couldn't remain near either plant for long. Dugu Bo knew these herbs contained the most potent types of yin and fire poisons—extremely overbearing and dangerous.

Due to uncertainty about their medicinal properties, he had never dared to act rashly.

Dugu Yan nodded, a flash of distaste passing through her eyes.

The Sea God Chronicle recorded this passage clearly:

"Because there is only one of each herb—the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and the Fiery Apricot Delicate Leaf—Tang San had no reason to hide their existence from Dugu Bo."

Dugu Bo had opened his heart to Tang San, yet Tang San kept secrets. The Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well clearly belonged to her grandfather, but Tang San treated it like his private garden, while her grandfather was relegated to little more than its gatekeeper.

In the beginning, tensions and misunderstandings had existed between Tang San and Dugu Bo, which perhaps explained some of Tang San's guardedness. But even after they became close companions across generations, Tang San never fully trusted him—as if he feared her grandfather would misuse the precious immortal herbs.

"If he was so wary of even someone who treated him with sincerity, how could he trust anyone else?"

Dugu Yan had studied Tang San's nature thoroughly in her past life: a selfish and hypocritical man. How could someone like him be chosen to become the Sea God and the Asura God?

A self-serving, deceitful, and shameless person sitting in judgment as a divine enforcer—what a cosmic joke that was for the Douluo Continent.

"Yan Yan…" Dugu Bo called softly.

Snapping out of her thoughts, Dugu Yan quickly responded, "Grandfather, what you don't know is—according to the Sea God Chronicle—the Sea God was able to create countless miracles in the spirit master world after absorbing these two immortal herbs. His fourth spirit ring reached the ten-thousand-year level, and his sixth reached one hundred thousand years. The benefits of absorbing both of these herbs together were not only a dramatic enhancement of his physical constitution and talent—allowing him to absorb higher-quality spirit rings—but also the development of an immune body, resistant to both fire and ice, and immune to all poisons. He retained his own poisonous abilities while becoming invulnerable to toxins."

In other words, had he absorbed the Fragrant Delicate Immortal Herb, he might have gained poison immunity—but at the cost of losing his own poison abilities. But by absorbing these two herbs, he gained poison immunity and retained his toxic powers.

For Tang San, whose Blue Silver Grass feared fire and ice, this pairing perfectly resolved that fatal weakness—leaving him without flaws. It was as if fate itself had favored him completely.

Dugu Bo's breathing grew labored. He stared at Dugu Yan intently and asked, "Yan Yan, tell Grandpa—how did the Sea God absorb these two herbs?"

"Opposing forces cancel each other—ice and fire neutralize. When these two extreme herbs are placed together, they begin to neutralize one another's toxicity. That moment is the only chance to safely ingest them. After consumption, the opposing poisons transform from mutual rejection to mutual reinforcement, altering the body. Then, one must leap into the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well to temper the body—achieving resistance to both elements."

Dugu Yan went on to explain the method of harvesting and consuming the two herbs. Following her instructions, Dugu Bo, in the form of a titled Douluo, forcefully picked both immortal herbs.

As he returned, Dugu Yan noticed that one of his hands had been scorched red, while the other was frozen stiff. Alarmed, she urged, "Grandfather, quickly! Take them! Do it as I said—absorb the herbs now!"

"Silly girl," Dugu Bo smiled, "If I absorb them, at most I'll reach the level of an Extreme Douluo. But if you absorb them, you may very well attain that lofty divine position."

"But what about your poison?" she asked, concerned.

Dugu Bo replied, "Have you forgotten the Fragrant Delicate Immortal Herb? With the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well suppressing the poison, Grandpa can hold on for a few more decades. Once you become a Titled Douluo—or if I truly reach my limit—I'll take that herb then."

Hearing this, Dugu Yan no longer hesitated. Following the method recorded by Tang San, she absorbed the two herbs and jumped into the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well to temper her body.

Dugu Bo stood guard for her.

Neither of them knew that, nearby, someone was secretly watching.

"Grand Worship, why would you let that girl absorb the two most precious immortal herbs from the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well? Don't forget—Dugu Bo once poisoned the entire city of soul masters in Jialing Pass."

Qian Daoliu replied calmly, "Use the enemy's methods against them. If we can recruit Dugu Bo, then it'll be our enemies falling to his poisons in the future."

"I can tell that girl, Dugu Yan, is likely a reincarnator. She's exposing all of Tang San's secrets. With that, there's no way Dugu Bo would ever side with him again. Clearly, she bears some old grudge against Tang San. A powerful enemy like her—why wouldn't we try to win them over? Recruiting Dugu Bo and his granddaughter is far more valuable than simply killing them."

Golden Crocodile Douluo nodded in agreement.

Then his expression tightened. He looked beyond the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well and said, "Brother, someone's coming—it's that kid from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan."

Qian Daoliu extended his spiritual sense and instantly detected the presence: someone from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan was moving with clear intent through the Sunset Forest toward the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well.

"They must be here for the Well," Golden Crocodile Douluo said. "Shall we intercept them?"

"No need. Let's enjoy the show," Qian Daoliu chuckled.

"What show?"

"Dugu Yan already said everything we would have used to entice Dugu Bo. Our original plan to win him over by offering him a cure is no longer viable. But the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan doesn't know what happened here. So we'll just watch Dugu Bo's reaction—and how Ning Fengzhi ends up humiliated."

Golden Crocodile Douluo nodded.

Meanwhile, Dugu Yan's complexion was visibly improving. The combined medicinal effect of the herbs and the Yin-Yang Well was indeed refining her body, just as she'd said. Everything was going smoothly. Dugu Bo finally began to relax.

But at that moment, he sensed a disturbance—someone had forcefully breached the poison formation he left outside.

A cold killing intent flashed across his face. Understanding the importance of this place, Dugu Bo would allow no intruders.

His figure flashed as he rushed out of the canyon and into the poison formation. Looking closely, he saw the intruders were none other than Ning Fengzhi, the Sect Master of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan—and Sword Douluo.
