Lux cracked his knuckles.
"Well then," he said, wings unfurling fully as dark lightning sparked at his fingertips, "come get your receipt."
From the temple's main altar, the so-called Echo began to shift.
Not forward. Not side to side.
Up. And out.
Its form expanded unnaturally, flesh and light stretching like divine chewing gum, bones twisting with holy screeches, until it no longer resembled the robed puppet they'd seen a moment ago.

"A centaur?" Lux blinked. "Really?"
