"I have talked to Freja," Markus told Dianne, the day after Dianne asked Markus to save her project and Pierre. "Really, you are so sweet" Dianne full of joy, optimistic. "She will return your project after you had checked it safely, you can expect it by next week" Dianne was stunned by his words. "What about Pierre?" Dianne asked him, but the disappointment increased slowly. "Sorry, Di, I cannot help with that," Markus said, boldly. "You know, her son, he is the war's hero, I have no power against him." Dianne's mind was confused. "But he did it to help me, so they should arrest me as well." Dianne voices boldly. "Hey! you know I won't allow that, but that Pierre, if he did nothing wrong then he will be safe. Calm down Di." Markus tried to calm her with his louder voice. Dianne did nit want to compete with him. "Sorry, Markus, I knew you tried your best, Thank you" Dianne backed down, but her mind still resisted. She is still thinking of a way to save Pierre. "Sorry, for yelling Di, But I cannot really help, order is order" Markus said. Order is order, what about me? — Dianne thought. "I know, you cannot risk your career," Dianne said. "Thanks for understanding, Di," Markus said proudly. He did not notice Dianne's true meaning after all. "So…I kept my promise" Markus said, his voice lively. "You must keep yours too" he reminded her of their promise that she will do anything he asked for once. "What do you want?" Dianne said, trying to steady her voice. "Wait for it" Markus replied. The call ended. Dianne would get her project back next week. She felt glad that she could continue working on it but Pierre, he had to be punished because of her.
The next morning, at Elena's office, Dianne came to update Elena. But it looked like Elena still was not prepared for disappointment.
"You have got what you want!" Elena yelled at Dianne. "We helped on your project, and looked at what we have got. Pierre detention, and I lost him." Elena said full of anger. "Elle.." Dianne tried to calm her down. She did not know what to do anymore. Elena, who was always lively, friendly, could be this much angry. "No need to calm me. We are no friend" Elena said. That was enough to hit Dianne. "Alright, I am sorry" Dianne could not stay anymore. She ran out. Elena looked at her until the door shut. She sat down. Trying to think of a way to save Pierre. The only person that came to her mind was "Karl Feta" , her ex-boyfriend. She opened her phone. Scroll to some old photos while she was spending time with Karl. Thinking whether he was willing to help her or not. She then looked for his contract and pressed on his number.
"Good morning Elle, I know you'd come to me sooner or later" Karl welcomed Elena. After a call, Elena came to Granitz camp. And met Karl Feta, her ex boyfriend , at his office. "Please have a seat," Karl said. Elena sat down in front of his desk. He has short blonde hair, pale, muscular as expected from the war's hero. "Good morning, Karl" Elena greeted him.
"Please Elle, we have known each other since we were young" Karl leaned forward, his voice was soft. "Karl, you are my friend nothing else" Elena said. "Alright, I know you were shaken by this small thing," Karl said. "I assume you come here for Pierre", Elena said nothing but nodded. "The answer is NO," Karl said boldly. Elena wanted to speak but she interrupted. "Tell me, Elle, why would I want to help the man who took you from me" Karl continued, "And now, you rushed to me asking for my help solely" Karl said, "This is unfair." Karl said. Elena could not speak out, every word was true. She has no right to ask for his help after what she has done to him. "Please, Karl, you are the only one who can save Pierre" Elena begged him. Karl knew he had an upper hand and he would not miss this chance. "I knew Elle, that guy he has only you left" Karl tone his voice down, softer. "But I cant just use my power or authority to interrupt the FRI's action," Karl said. "The Army has its rule, and so does FRI" Karl explained. "Without a good reason, I cannot persuade my mom" Karl said, stood up and walked behind Elena. He leaned to her, touched over her shoulder. "Come back to us, Elle" he whispered. Elena was stunned.
Elena came back to her place, no, Pierre's place. She asked Pierre to allow her to stay more at his place. Come back and I will help you - Karl's words kept repeating in her head. The only way to save Pierre was to return to Feta's family, acting like in the past. After her father died, on a mission in Kapital, Freja adopted her. She lost her husband on the same mission, so she was widowed but able to raise Karl, and Elena. Sometimes the former director, Edwin Weissmann, also came and spent time together. Elena spent most time with Karl, the two formed a strong bond. While Elena must go to study in the mainland, Karl aimed to be a soldier like his father. He told Elena that he wanted to avenge anyone who murder his and her fathers. His words touched deeply in Elena's heart. It was deep enough that the two agreed to be in a relationship. They maintain their relationship mutually, no one will feel lonely even if they were distant. After Elena received her PhD, Edwin Weissmann offered a research position for her in Granitz. She accepted it without thinking. Karl was also transferred to Granitz base. Everything was nice, smooth, and lovely. Everything was turned around. Three years ago, a young scientist started to work here, Pierre Therma. Edwin assigned her to be his mentor. Pierre was full of motivation, inspiration, and intellect. He spoke not much but every time he spoke it pierced right to her mind. Without realizing, she spent her time more with Pierre. Her distance between Feta's family was growing. At some points, Karl's words become annoying, boring, irritating. Karl tried to reconcile with her, but his action, and Freja, was too exaggerated. Elena could not accept that. Freja saw Pierre as her obstacles since he was promoted to chief scientist and then acting director in just three years. She sometimes tried to discredit Pierre, while Karl disturbed him several times. If she left Pierre, he would have no one else. Elena was only his friend and more.
