This had to be the second time that Caius was really coming to terms with how little he knew about Arlette. How much of her life the original story had not explored because of how quickly she died.
Arlette studied the look on his face and chuckled,
"No, Caius. I'm not a Member of the Dark Church."
Caius studied her face. It didn't look like she was lying so he asked a different sounding question that was in a way still the same;
"But you used to be?" Caius asked.
"No. Never have been," Arlette said, "If you know of the Dark Church, you should know you can't ever leave the Dark Church once you're a member. Once you've devoted your life to the Dark Lady, you're in it for life."
"So how—?" Caius started but Arlette interrupted him.
"How do I know so much?" She asked and then let out a sigh,
"I've had a hard and rough life, Caius. I won't bore you with the details…"
"Bore me," Caius said and even though his voice sounded light, his eyes were intense with imploring need.
