"Take this!"
Riko Amanai's shout snapped Suguru Geto from his thoughts.
She leaped, aiming a kick at Satoru Gojo, only to be repelled by his Limitless technique, tumbling into the surf.
Splash!
Salty seawater flooded her nose, a choking grip like hands around her throat.
A sudden thought surged in Riko's mind.
Just die like this, at my happiest moment…
Her strength drained, and she let herself sink into the sea.
The azure water mirrored the endless sky, bubbles rising like pearls.
A vibrant fish swam past, sunlight glinting off its scales in a mesmerizing halo.
In that moment, Riko shed all her burdens, feeling utterly free.
Just as her eyes closed, a splash broke the silence, and Satoru's face appeared.
His flawless sky-blue eyes shone like the sea and heavens combined.
Satoru scooped Riko up by the waist, swimming for the surface.
Pfft… gasp!
They broke through, gulping air. Satoru deadpanned, "Oi, what, leg cramp?"
Riko fumed, "You're the jerk who bounced me into the water!"
"Huh? I was protecting you!"
"Protecting? I nearly drowned, genius!"
"Brat, wanna go back under?"
"Who're you calling a brat? You're barely older—glug glug…"
Misato Kuroi yelled, "Stop it, Mr. Satoru Gojo!"
Sawa Gojo, watching the squabble, mused, "Suguru, don't they seem kinda perfect together?"
"Huh?"
Suguru rolled his eyes. "Sure, Satoru likes hanging with Riko, but romance? That's a stretch."
Sawa shrugged. "Gotta think about my little brother's future, ya know!"
Suguru groaned. "They're not even adults yet!"
Then, with a sly glance, "Speaking of, how's it going with Shoko?"
"What?!"
Sawa shot up, flustered. "No way, Suguru! You're spouting nonsense! No chance! Pure fantasy!"
Suguru smirked at Sawa's overreaction, saying nothing.
"What's that look, you jerk?!"
Time slipped by in banter and teasing.
As the sun set and night deepened, Riko's smile faded.
The night passed quietly.
The next day, a urgent order from the higher-ups sent them racing to the airport.
Misato wanted to join, but Sawa pulled her aside, whispering instructions.
Satoru grinned teasingly. "Secret chats now? Could it be…"
Suguru frowned, recalling Sawa's email to Yaga-sensei yesterday.
Misato nodded solemnly, bowed deeply to Sawa, glanced at Riko, and left.
Sawa offered no explanation to his friends.
They flew back to Jujutsu High.
Each step up the stone stairs weighed heavier on their hearts.
Riko, anxious, put on a brave face.
She jabbed a finger at Satoru, proclaiming, "Hey! Soon I'll assimilate with Lord Tengen. After that, you'd better show me some respect, got it?"
Satoru rolled his eyes, looking away. "Don't get cocky. Meet Tengen? I'm outta here the second we drop you off!"
They reached the school's barrier.
Satoru sighed, "Finally!"
Suguru smiled. "You and Sawa kept Limitless up forever. You can rest now."
Jujutsu High's barrier, set by Tengen himself, was foolproof, alerting to any unregistered sorcerer's entry.
Supremely reliable!
But Sawa wasn't so sure.
He knew Tengen's true colors.
Compared to Kenjaku, who'd thrived for a millennium with raw power and skill, Tengen was… underwhelming.
They stepped into the barrier.
Satoru stretched, casually dropping Limitless.
Suguru and Riko relaxed, too.
Inside Jujutsu High, they were safe, right?
Only Sawa stayed tense, eyes locked on Satoru's back.
Any second, the Heaven and Tyrant, immune to barriers due to his unique physique, would appear behind him, striking with a blade.
My foolish little brother, still grinning…
Schlik! Schlik!
Agony shattered Sawa's thoughts.
He looked down—a bloodied blade protruded from his waist.
Satoru's pupils shrank, a knife plunged into his chest from behind.
Toji Fushiguro, dual-wielding daggers, struck true, his face a cold, confident smirk.
Just like the original story, he attacked at their most vulnerable moment.
The Heaven and Tyrant had descended!
Sawa hadn't expected to be hit, too, but seeing their wounds sent him into a rage.
What's this? Satoru gets the chest, and I get the kidney?
"Sawa! Satoru!"
Suguru, shocked, swung at Toji, Yurei's three-section staff cracking with a sonic boom.
But Toji was lightning-fast, dodging and weaving through Tengen's "reliable" barrier like it was nothing.
"What's going on? The barrier's not reacting?"
Suguru sweated, sensing no cursed energy from Toji.
Yet the overwhelming danger was unlike anything he'd felt!
Lethal! Deadly!
"Suguru!"
Sawa roared, "Don't forget what I told you! Go!"
Suguru hesitated, then grabbed Riko and bolted into the school.
Satoru, clueless about Sawa's plan with Suguru, knew this was the best move to protect Riko.
Now, it was the Six Eyes twins versus the Heaven and Tyrant!
"Bro, you okay?"
"Won't die yet!"
Sawa eyed Toji, a grin tugging his lips. "Zenin… no, Toji Fushiguro. Been a while!"
Toji raised a brow. "Didn't expect the Gojo heir to remember a wild monkey like me. I'm flattered!"
"How long's it been?"
"Eight years!"
"Right, eight years."
Toji twirled his Inverted Spear of Heaven, smirking. "For old times' sake, step aside. I'll take the girl. Deal?"
Satoru, fuming, opened his mouth, but Sawa cut in, "No deal!"
He struck a fighting stance. "From the moment I saw you, I knew we'd have to settle this. Want past? Kill me!"
"And me!"
Satoru stepped up beside Sawa, glaring at Toji.
Toji scratched his head, sighing. "Well, then…"
"Go die!"
