Sister Yang and the others lived in a small courtyard not far from the county office. It only took them the time of burning an incense stick to get there.
The gatekeeper at the county office already recognized Sister Yang and led her straight to the magistrate's study.
"Luo'er, you came at the right time. I heard today that you saved the eldest daughter of the Su family, Yunna. Is that true?" Magistrate Wen asked.
"Auntie, Xael and I were talking at the time. Because of the trees blocking the view, I thought it was an animal and shot an arrow in her direction. Xael pulled her out of the way to save her. When I walked over, she had already passed out," Sister Yang explained simply.
"No one saw you shoot that arrow, right?"
"No, no one saw it."
"Yunna is quite well-known in the county. She steals and gambles every day. A woman spending all her time in gambling dens and brothels is disgraceful. Although the head of the Su family isn't great either, the husbands she married are from some of the wealthiest families in the county, and their businesses are doing very well."
"The county office already has a record from the Su family head, officially disowning Yunna."
"Did Xael actually touch Yunna?" Magistrate Wen asked directly after saying all that.
"Auntie, Xael only did it to save her. Also, when I changed her clothes just now, I found out Yunna is still a virgin. Her purity mark is still there," Sister Yang said.
"What? She's still a virgin?"
"It's true, Auntie. You know about Xael's situation. Things got really messy in Fengdu, and my mother still hasn't recovered from it. I've already brought Xael's registration papers. No matter what kind of person Yunna was before, just based on the fact that she's still a virgin, could we consider marrying her to Xael?" Sister Yang said after thinking for a moment.
"She's a spoiled gambler with a terrible temper. Would she be willing to marry someone? Even if she did, would life after marriage be any good for Xael? She's not a good match," Magistrate Wen said with a sigh.
"Auntie, you're the county magistrate now. With you watching over her, she won't dare to act up. Also, today some other women saw Xael touch her. If Yunna refuses, it will only become harder for Xael to find a suitable wife," Sister Yang said in a low voice.
"We still need to talk this over more. Has Yunna woken up?"
"Not yet. She has some internal and external injuries and will need a few days to recover."
"When she wakes up, observe her personality. And make sure she never finds out that it was you who shot that arrow, or it could cause serious trouble," Magistrate Wen warned.
"I understand, Auntie. I'll head back now."
"Alright. If anything happens, send someone to inform me."
"Okay, Auntie."
...
Yunna slowly opened her eyes and found herself in a room with a traditional, old-style design. She sat up and noticed that her clothes had been changed, and the places where the branches had scratched her were already treated with medicine. Even the injury on her foot had been taken care of.
She remembered that an arrow had flown toward her, and then a white figure had jumped to shield her. What happened after that?
Looking around at the environment, she was sure she had traveled through time. It seemed she couldn't go back. Was she really going to live here from now on?
The original owner of this body was apparently hated by everyone in town. So who saved her? Judging by the decorations and bedding, this wasn't the home of a poor family.
Suddenly, the door opened.
A clean-looking young man walked in carrying a basin.
"Miss Yunna, you're awake. Your foot is injured, so don't get out of bed," the young man said as he placed the basin down and politely knelt.
"Who are you? Where is this place?" Yunna asked calmly, like someone who had accepted her fate after time-traveling.
"Please rest, Miss Yunna. I will go inform the master," the man said and left right away.
She sat on the bed, watching him leave, feeling a bit helpless. Couldn't he at least tell her who the master of this house was? And could she get something to eat? She was starving.
She had been walking in the forest all day.
Yunna looked at the table in front of her and saw a teapot. She lifted the blanket and tried to get out of bed to drink some water.
As soon as her feet touched the floor, a sharp pain shot through her injured foot. Was her foot seriously damaged?
She carefully tiptoed to the chair and slowly sat down. Then she poured herself a cup of tea and drank it.
She finished nearly half the pot of tea. Just as she stopped drinking, she heard the door open again.
