Chapter 43 - The Relic’s Power

The moon cast the ancient stones of the Veilwood temple in a glacial sheen of silver, rendering each toppled column and archipelago of mossy stone a ghost of its former glory. Shoulders taut beneath my cloak, I gazed up at the foot of the central dais, where the Moonclaw's twin crescents gleamed and pulsed gently in the gloom. Even in repose, the relic vibrated with force — a beckoning, a prod, a warning signal. Kael turned away and faced me, his storm‑gray eyes trained on the relic like it was ever‑present salvation and executioner. Getting it on was all that really mattered between us, and never mind the world, which seemed to be holding it's breath.
