15 Miles: The Heist

Episode 46: Fractures
---
The sky burned with the orange glow of Nexus Tower's final collapse, sending plumes of smoke and ash into the night. Eve crouched behind a shattered concrete barrier, the data drive heavy in her palm like a lifeline — the weight of the future resting on a tiny chip.
Reese scanned the horizon, eyes sharp beneath the brim of his hood. "Extraction should be here by now. Something's off."
Eve's breath hitched, chest tightening. "We can't wait. We have to move."
They sprinted through back alleys, slipping past frightened civilians and scattered debris. The city felt like a war zone — sirens wailing, shouting echoes, and the distant thunder of armored vehicles closing in.
---
Julian limped forward, every agonizing step a reminder of how close they had come to death. Blood seeped through his torn sleeve, but his mind was laser-focused.
He paused in a deserted plaza, eyes flicking to the cracked screen of his comm device. No response.
"Dammit," he whispered. The team was fractured, scattered, and hunted. But failure was not an option.
Suddenly, the device buzzed — Eve's voice, barely audible but urgent.
"Julian… we have the drive. But we're compromised. Need backup. Coordinates coming."
He swallowed pain, tapping in the coordinates, then scanned the dark streets.
"We're not done yet," he vowed.

Elsewhere, in a shadowed van, Lucian's eyes gleamed with cold calculation. Screens flickered with images — D7's movements, the crumbling Nexus Tower, and a map marked with blinking red dots.
"Let them run," Lucian muttered. "The pieces will come to me. Their desperation will be their undoing."
His fingers hovered over the console, initiating a silent lockdown across the city's network — a digital cage closing in.
---
Back on the ground, Eve and Reese reached an abandoned warehouse on the edge of the industrial district. Julian arrived moments later, his expression grim but determined.
"We have one shot," Julian said. "We upload the data to every major news outlet. Expose Nexus. Force the world to act."
Reese loaded his weapon, voice low. "And if Lucian's men find us first?"
Julian's eyes burned with fierce resolve. "Then we fight. No more running."
---
Outside, the first of the Ghost Net squads closed in, their footsteps muffled but relentless.
The team prepared to make their stand — a desperate last gambit to turn the tide.
