Adam had done nothing all day. Not a single productive meeting. Not a single decision made. He sat at his desk for hours, the world moving around him, untouched.
Laila had stopped asking questions. The executives avoided his office. Even Tristan, who had been pacing his office this morning trying to shake him out of his trance, had finally given up and left—after saying something Adam still couldn't forget.
"You always said you didn't want to feel again. And now that you do… you're scared out of your goddamn mind."
He had said nothing then. Because there was nothing to say.
He just sat there, lost in the memories of his wife.
The way Sofia used to set his coffee beside him with quiet grace. The way she smiled when she didn't know he was watching. The way her fingers reached for his hand once beneath the dinner table, and how his heart nearly forgot how to beat.
And then the way her eyes broke when she said she found the letters. The way he broke her.
