The battle against Mongul was nothing short of brutal. Batman and Nightwing threw themselves into the fight with all their skill, but their efforts barely slowed the monster down. Every strike, every gadget, every maneuver only served to stall him for a heartbeat—there was no weakness they could exploit, no strategy that seemed to matter.
Raven fared better. Her shadowy tendrils coiled around him, dragging at his massive limbs, and her dark magic struck him again and again. But even she lacked the raw destructive force needed to truly wound him.
Surprisingly, the only one who managed to hurt Mongul was Red Hood. Not with his standard weapons—those had already failed him—but with something else. Something Jason had taught him.
The first bullet infused with cursed energy tore through the air. The Black Flash detonated against Mongul's abdomen with a crack that split the battlefield. For the first time, Mongul groaned in pain, staggering back. His gaze immediately snapped to Red Hood, fury boiling in his eyes.
"You—!"
He slammed the ground where Red Hood had stood, but he had already launched himself away with his grappling hook. Batman moved quickly, hurling a cluster of smoke-dispersing batarangs. Mongul dismissed the cover with a single sweep of his hand, clearing the haze with brute force. That's when Nightwing dove in, spinning into a kick—only for Mongul to catch his leg midair.
The alien warlord slammed Nightwing into the floor with enough force to rattle the chamber. Raising his foot to crush him, Mongul sneered—only to be interrupted as Batman leapt onto his head, planting sticky explosives along his neck before vaulting clear. The charges detonated, staggering the giant just long enough for Nightwing to drag himself away. But in that moment of smoke and confusion, Mongul's fist shot out like a cannon.
Batman never saw it coming. The blow smashed him against the wall, his body crumpling as consciousness left him.
"Batman!" Raven cried, unleashing a barrage of shadowy orbs. Her tendrils lashed out, snaring Mongul's legs and locking him down. For a moment, it seemed she had him.
But Mongul only roared, tearing free from the bindings. "Weak!"
He charged through her dark magic as though it were mist. Raven kept firing, desperate, but the alien juggernaut bulldozed forward. In seconds, he was upon her.
Then, a shove knocked her out of the way. Red Hood.
Gritting his teeth, he reloaded his weapon with cursed energy. His hands trembled, his reserves dwindling. This has to work…
He fired.
Another Black Flash tore through the battlefield, striking Mongul square in the head. The alien titan was blasted off his feet, crashing onto his back with a roar of pain. A jagged red mark burned across his yellow skin.
But Red Hood collapsed to his knees, gasping. Every bullet drained him faster, every shot brought him closer to collapse. He was the one paying the steepest price for wielding cursed energy.
Mongul rose, seething, his voice shaking the air. "You… I'll rip you apart for this!"
He charged. Raven scrambled to shield them, weaving a dome of black energy. Mongul's fist shattered it like glass. The impact thundered forward—and Raven squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for the end.
But the killing blow never came.
When she opened her eyes, Mongul's massive fist was caught in the grip of a single hand. Standing tall, smiling calmly, was the man who had saved her more than once.
"Jason…" she whispered, relief flooding her voice.
Jason turned his head slightly, flashing her a grin. "You all did great. I'm proud of you."
Then he clenched his fist and retaliated.
The punch detonated like a cannon shot, launching Mongul across the chamber and slamming him into the far wall with a bone-cracking crash. Dust rained from the ceiling.
Jason didn't move to chase. He stood there, radiating quiet confidence, his voice cutting through the battlefield.
"Now watch. Both of you. I want you to see the heights cursed energy can take you to. No slashes. No Cleave. No Domain. I'll defeat this alien… with nothing but my fists."
.
From the rubble of the shattered wall, Mongul dragged himself free. His massive form loomed, cracked skin glowing faintly from the strain of battle. His teeth were bared, blood seeping from the corner of his mouth.
"YOU… You're different," Mongul growled, eyes locked on Jason.
Jason tilted his head, almost bored, as he sighed. "Oh? Am I? …Yeah, I guess I am." He cracked his knuckles as faint waves of blue energy shimmered across his fists—visible only to those attuned to cursed energy. "Stronger. Much stronger."
This was the chance he had been waiting for. Jason knew well enough that his slashes wouldn't do much unless he infused them with something more, and if he unleashed his Domain, the fight would end instantly. But that wasn't his goal tonight.
He had two objectives.
First: to test himself. He had grown, leveled up in ways he hadn't yet measured. The demons of Hell were no challenge anymore—he needed an opponent of Mongul's caliber to sharpen his edge.
Second: to inspire. Red Hood and Raven were watching. If they saw him wield cursed energy in a purely physical fight against an alien rivaling Wonder Woman's strength, it would ignite their drive. They needed proof of what was possible.
"You arrogant, inferior human!" Mongul roared, his voice cracking the ground beneath them. "One lucky hit and you—Ugh!"
His words were cut short by Jason's boot colliding with his jaw. The impact hurled him across the chamber, teeth shattering as blood sprayed. Jason didn't even break stride, mocking in his tone.
"Same old, same old. Oh, I'm alien. I'm strong! I'm superior! Humans are weak!" Jason's voice dripped with mockery as he advanced.
Fury twisted Mongul's features. He lunged forward, a massive fist tearing through the air—fast, brutal, enough to kill a lesser warrior. But Jason sidestepped effortlessly, slipping past the blow with predator's grace.
His counter was merciless. A sharp punch to the gut, followed by a brutal knee slamming into Mongul's shin. The alien staggered. "Impossible…" he choked, only for Jason's fist to crush his nose, sending blood gushing down his face.
Jason pressed forward. Mongul tried to grapple, but Jason's twin fists hammered into his back, driving him into the ground. Before Mongul could rise, Jason seized his arm and, with a sickening crack, snapped it in two.
The alien's scream shook the chamber. "AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Jason crouched beside him, turning him over so their eyes met. His hand clamped tightly around Mongul's throat, squeezing until the warlord's face darkened. Jason's voice was calm, almost reflective, as he spoke.
"Humans. Funny, isn't it? We are fragile. The average man wouldn't survive a breath in space. Compared to you aliens, demons, gods—yes, we're weak." His grip tightened, Mongul clawing desperately at his arm.
"But you all fail to understand what humans are capable of. We are weak, yes… but every generation, a few of us rise above. Leaders. Kings. Monsters. Gods. Warriors… like me. Cursed to walk this earth, bearing power that should never exist. Fated to destroy… or to save."
Jason's eyes burned with quiet resolve as his grip crushed Mongul's throat. "And I've already made my choice."
With a final twist, he snapped Mongul's neck. The alien's body went limp, crashing to the ground with a heavy thud. Silence fell across the battlefield.
Jason released a faint chuckle, glancing at the looming warship in the distance. "Oh—and thanks for the ship."
