Layla blinked, lifting her gaze from her paperwork, clearly annoyed by the sudden intrusion.
Her secretary stood at the doorway, face pale, eyes wide with urgency, clutching a tablet in her hand like it was a live grenade.
She quickly crossed the plush carpet of Layla's private office suite and set the tablet down on the polished table in front of her boss.
Without waiting for permission, she tapped the screen.
The screen lit up.
The bright glow reflected off the minimalist white-and-gold décor of the room, casting shadows across Layla's sharp features as the familiar jingle of a major news channel played.
She didn't expect much, maybe another market fluctuation, a merger rumor, or some celebrity scandal at best.
But the moment the reporter's voice began to speak, Layla's entire body tensed.
