"That's really good! That's really, really good!" the old lady exclaimed, her entire face lighting up as her smile stretched wider than it had in years. Her elegant fingers clasped together in front of her chest as if trying to contain the joy bubbling inside her.
"Finally," she breathed, half to herself, "I might get to meet my granddaughter-in-law… and maybe," she paused, her eyes gleaming with hope, "maybe I'll even live to see my great-grandbabies."
The very thought made her chest swell with warmth and longing. Her gaze drifted to Silas again, who now stood a few feet away, the faintest smile resting on his lips. He looked so at ease, as if even just mentioning this mysterious woman had softened the harder edges of his usual stoic demeanor.
