"Okay, now that we're home, you can ask me whatever you want," Silas said as he and Avery settled onto the plush sofa in their living room. The air between them was still humming with unresolved tension from the day's events, but at least now they had some privacy.
Avery leaned back, folding her arms tightly across her chest. She wasn't entirely sure what to expect from him, and frankly, a part of her still doubted that anything helpful could come out of this conversation. Still, the look on Silas's face held too much certainty to ignore.
They had decided to come home instead of talking at her office or in the car. Silas had said what he was about to share was sensitive, too confidential for wandering ears or boardroom walls. That only added to Avery's curiosity, and her wariness.
