"Today are my audition results," Adrian muttered under his breath as he sat up in bed, blinking at the soft morning light that filtered through the half-closed blinds of his small apartment. The room still smelled faintly of coffee from yesterday, and his alarm clock blinked 7:03 AM in blue.
His heart thudded louder than usual. The day he had been waiting for had finally arrived.
Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he pushed off the covers and swung his legs over the edge of the bed. His bare feet touched the cold wooden floor, grounding him back into reality. He sat still for a second, trying to steady his racing thoughts. Then, with a deep breath, he headed into the bathroom.
The small mirror above the sink fogged slightly from the steam of his quick shower. He wiped it with a towel, his own anxious eyes staring back at him. "You've worked hard," he told his reflection, brushing a hand through his still-damp hair. "No matter what happens… you showed up."
