The sunlight filtered gently through the windows of the lodge, casting golden rays over the still forms of those who had finally found rest after days of chaos. The sounds of birds returned to the forest, a soft melody weaving into the peaceful hush that followed the storm.
Ethan stood by the edge of the nearby lake, his reflection flickering in the rippling water. A faint breeze moved his hair as he stared into the distance, eyes contemplative. The weight of the Traveler ability now rested in his soul—freedom, power, and responsibility. But he hadn't told anyone. Not yet.
He closed his eyes and let the silence wash over him. For once, there was no need to fight. No beast to slay. No fate to rewrite.
Just the sound of approaching footsteps.
A hand slipped gently into his.
"Couldn't sleep?" Elsa asked, her voice soft and melodic.
Ethan glanced at her. She wore a flowing white dress, the color of morning frost, her platinum hair loosely braided to one side. She looked like serenity made flesh.
"Not really. I just… needed a moment."
Elsa smiled, stepping beside him. "After everything that happened, I'm surprised you're not asleep for a week."
He chuckled. "I guess my heart's too full."
She tilted her head. "Full of what?"
He turned to her, lifting her hand and pressing it against his chest. "This."
Elsa's eyes widened, her breath catching softly. "Ethan…"
He leaned forward, his forehead resting against hers, his voice almost a whisper. "I meant what I said last night, Elsa. You're not alone anymore. You never have to be."
Her hands trembled as they held onto his shirt, emotions bubbling behind her glacier-blue eyes. "And I meant it, too… I love you. I thought I had to walk alone to protect everyone, but you… you showed me another way."
Their lips met, slow and warm, like snow melting in spring. A kiss not born of desperation, but of shared truth.
When they parted, Elsa leaned against his chest, listening to his heartbeat.
"I don't know where the future will take us," she whispered, "but I want to walk beside you… wherever it leads."
He closed his arms around her. "Then I'll never let go."

Later that morning, as the village stirred and the sun climbed higher, Ethan found himself back at the center hall, where Anna stood in front of a large oak table, poring over scrolls and papers. Even though the kingdom had been saved, her duties as Queen had only just begun.
She looked up as he entered, her face brightening instantly.
"Ethan!" she said, brushing her strawberry-blonde hair behind her ear. "Perfect timing. I was just thinking about you."
He raised an eyebrow. "Thinking about me, or how you'll escape your mountain of paperwork?"
She laughed, motioning him over. "Both, obviously."
He walked to her side, arms crossing. "Queen Anna, huh?"
She gave a soft grin. "Yeah. Weird, isn't it?"
"No," he said. "It fits. You've always led with your heart."
She flushed slightly at the compliment, then pulled him toward a side room connected to the study.
"Come with me," she said, closing the door behind them.
The room was small, private. Sunlight painted the walls through the thin curtains. Anna turned to face him, nervously fidgeting with her fingers.
"I… I wanted to say something last night. But I got scared."
Ethan approached, voice gentle. "You don't have to be afraid with me."
She nodded, took a breath, then stepped closer, placing her hands on his chest.
"I love you, Ethan," she said. "And not just because you saved our kingdom. You've been there through everything. Even when I doubted myself… you didn't."
He cupped her cheek, thumb brushing her skin. "I saw you for who you truly are. Brave, kind, and endlessly loving."
Tears sparkled in her eyes. "Do you think… I'm enough? For you?"
He leaned down, kissing her gently. "You've always been more than enough."
They held each other for a long moment, neither speaking. Just existing in the shared warmth of something real.
—
Later still, as the noon bell rang and the castle began to bustle with life again, Ethan found himself walking through the gardens. Olaf hummed a song in the distance while Sven munched on fresh vegetables in the stable yard.
He sat under the large birch tree near the edge of the forest, back against the trunk, when a familiar figure approached.
"Mind if I join you?" asked Honeymaren, dressed in soft leathers with her hair tied back.
"Never," he said, smiling.
She sat beside him, silent for a while. "So… it's really over."
"Yeah," he nodded. "For now."
She looked at him, her green eyes serious. "You're leaving, aren't you?"
He stiffened slightly. "What makes you say that?"
"I don't know. Something about you… You've been looking beyond the horizon all morning. Like your soul's already halfway somewhere else."
He looked down. "There are… things I need to do."
Honeymaren didn't pry. She just nodded. "Then I'm glad I told you last night."
He glanced at her. "Told me what?"
She smiled faintly. "That I love you."
Ethan's expression softened. "Even though we didn't spend as much time together, I always felt something special with you. Like we understood each other in silence."
She reached out, fingers gently lacing with his. "If you go… promise me one thing."
"Anything."
"Don't forget us. Don't forget this."
He pulled her into a tight embrace. "Never."
—
As the sun began its descent and the light turned golden again, Ethan stood atop the cliffs overlooking the valley. The river flowed calmly now, the land reborn.
Elsa approached, followed closely by Anna and Honeymaren. They said nothing at first, just stood with him, watching the view.
Anna took his right hand. Elsa his left. Honeymaren stood behind, resting her head gently against his shoulder.
"I wish this moment could last forever," Anna whispered.
"It already does," Elsa replied, her voice serene. "In our hearts."
Ethan closed his eyes, holding on to this fragile, beautiful peace.
There were still journeys ahead. Still people he needed to see again. Worlds he needed to return to. But for now… he was here.
In a place where he was loved.
And where, no matter where he went, a part of him would always remain.
