Ethan let out a long breath as he leaned back against the hospital bed. His body felt noticeably better—not fully healed, but the soreness that had clung to his muscles was fading. He flexed his fingers, feeling the newfound energy coursing through him. The Body Improvement Pill had worked wonders, and though he still had the Health Potion, he decided to save it for tomorrow.
As exhaustion from the day settled in, he allowed himself to relax. His mind was still spinning from the revelation that he would be sent to another world in just a month. An isekai. A real one. He was afraid but excited. That It was something he had always fantasized about, but now that it was happening, it felt surreal.
No point in stressing over it now. He turned on his side, pulling the hospital blanket over himself. Tomorrow, I start training.
With that thought, he drifted into sleep.
The Next Morning
Ethan woke up to the soft sound of footsteps approaching his bed. Blinking away the haze of sleep, he turned his head to see the same nurse from yesterday placing a tray of food on his bedside table. She was young, probably in her early twenties, with short brown hair and a teasing smirk on her lips.
"Morning, sleeping beauty," she said playfully.
Ethan chuckled, pushing himself up into a sitting position. "Morning."
She gestured to the tray. "I brought your breakfast. Gotta make sure our miracle patient is well-fed."
"Thanks," he said, picking up the spoon.
The nurse watched him for a moment, then smirked. "So, what's your name, mystery hero?"
"Ethan," he replied between bites. "Ethan Walker."
"Nice to meet you, Ethan. I'm Samantha." She leaned on the bed's railing, crossing her arms. "So, what's your secret? Most people wouldn't be up and moving so soon after getting hit by a car."
Ethan hesitated. Yeah, I can't exactly say 'I got a system that gave me super recovery pills.'
He just shrugged. "Guess I got lucky."
Samantha gave him a knowing look but didn't push further. "Well, don't push yourself too hard, hero." She winked before walking away.
Ethan let out a breath and finished his food. Alright, time to get to work.
After breakfast, Ethan sat up and whispered, "Inventory."
A blue screen popped up, displaying his remaining Health Potion. Without hesitation, he tapped it. The bottle materialized in his hand, filled with a glowing red liquid.
Here goes nothing. He tilted his head back and drank it in one gulp.
A cooling sensation spread through his body. The dull ache in his muscles faded even further, and his energy surged. Much better.
Time to train.
"Status," he muttered.
A blue screen appeared.User: Ethan Walker
Level: 1
Strength: 10 → 12
Agility: 10 → 11
Endurance: 10 → 13
Ethan grinned. That pill really worked. His body, which had been slightly skinny before, now felt more solid, his muscles subtly more defined.
He rolled his shoulders and got into position. Let's start with push-ups.
The first ten were easy.
By the time he hit thirty, he was sweating.
At fifty, his arms burned.
It took ten minutes to complete 100 push-ups, and Ethan collapsed onto his back, gasping.
"Damn… that was harder than I thought." He wiped the sweat from his forehead, catching his breath.
After a short break, he started on sit-ups. His stomach muscles protested, but he pushed through. The pain in his ribs reminded him that he wasn't fully healed yet.
50… 70… 90… 100.
It took him 25 minutes to finish them.
He takes a break for 1 hour.
Only squats left.
Just as he was about to start, the door swung open.
"Ethan?!"
He looked up to see Alise standing in the doorway, her eyes wide in shock.
She rushed over, concern all over her face. "What are you doing?! You just woke up from a freaking coma, and now you're doing—" she gestured at his sweat-covered body, "—a full workout? Are you insane?"
Ethan chuckled, still catching his breath. "Relax, I'm just getting back into shape."
Alise crossed her arms, clearly not amused. "You're supposed to be resting, not pushing your body like this."
"I feel fine," Ethan reassured her. "Just a little sore."
Alise sighed but seemed to calm down a bit. "Just… be careful, okay?"
He smiled. "Got it."
She huffed. "Good." Then, as if suddenly remembering something, she held up a plastic container.
"I brought you food."
Ethan's eyes lit up. "Oh, nice! Did you make it?"
Alise looked away, her cheeks slightly pink. "Yeah… my mom helped, though."
Ethan grinned. "Still counts. Thanks, Alise."
As she handed him the food, her eyes drifted downward—then froze.
Her face turned a shade redder.
Ethan tilted his head. "What?"
Alise coughed and quickly looked away. "When the hell did you get a body like that?"
Ethan blinked, confused, before glancing down at himself. He was shirtless, and thanks to the Body Improvement Pill, his previously lean build had developed into a noticeably toned physique.
"Oh." He smirked, flexing his arm slightly. "Impressed?"
Alise's face turned even redder. "Shut up and eat."
Ethan laughed, taking the container. "Fine, fine."
He opened the lid, and his stomach rumbled. The food looked amazing—a home-cooked meal that smelled even better than it looked.
Alise sat down on the chair beside him as he started eating. "So… really, are you okay?"
Ethan nodded between bites. "Yeah. Honestly, I feel better than ever."
She studied him for a moment, then smiled softly. "Good. Just… don't scare me like that again, okay?"
He swallowed and looked at her seriously. "I'll try. But… if I had to do it all over again, I'd still save that girl."
Alise sighed. "Yeah, I know." She glanced at him and murmured something under her breath.
Ethan raised an eyebrow. "What was that?"
"N-Nothing!" she quickly said, standing up. "Just finish your food. I'll be back tomorrow." After talking for a while.
Ethan smirked, watching her leave.
As the door clicked shut behind her, he leaned back.
One month left. One month until he leaves this world.
He needed to get stronger.
With renewed determination, he set the container down and got back into position.
Time to finish squats.
