Chapter 7 - Visit of the Queen (1)

I looked at her beautiful, delicate face, about to cry. Even though we had grown

comfortable, she still couldn't shake off the fact that my reputation and the rumors might be true that I'm a scum

back then. Now, seeing me angry, she might really think I'd abuse her.

I touched her shoulder gently, catching Luna off guard. "Don't worry, it's fine. I'll be able to find Seo in no time," I said, my voice as gentle as an angel's.

She was stunned as I wiped away the tears that were about to burst forth, calming her down, at least somewhat. She bit her

delicate lips, trying to suppress her guilt at having lost her young master's pet, Seo.

While reassuring her, I communicated with Seo, since we were bound by contract. Seo's voice, seemingly annoyed, crackled

Through the connection he speaks. "That girl keeps giving me annoying outfits, and they're extremely uncomfortable! As a proud

beast, how could I accept such humiliation?" His voice was angry and laced with annoyance.

Sighing, I gestured for Luna to come with me, which she did, obeying my words submissively. As we entered my room, I called out to Seo, who emerged.

Luna was surprised. She was sure that no ordinary squirrel could do that, unless… it was a familiar? Her voice, tinged with

curiosity, posed the question. Seo, with a smug look on his face, replied, "I'm a proud two-star peak-layer, ready to be three-star anytime I want!" He puffed out his tiny squirrel chest.

Luna's eyes shone cutely her earlier tears and wariness toward me completely gone as she poked Seo's face. I was stunned and rubbed my temples. Here I was, with an

innocent maid and an arrogant squirrel in front of me. Though, looking at it, it was quite amusing to see Seo's angry face as Luna's finger was slapped away by his tiny paw.

I dismissed them, gesturing for the two to leave. Suddenly, the squirrel spoke. "Master, I'm ready to breakthrough, and there will be quite a bit of trouble. Can you help me?" I nodded, curiosity palpable.

Those tribulations also existed here? I

thought, pondering, since this body didn't really know. Luna just kept poking Seo's Face

her beautiful emerald eyes shining with amusement. Seo couldn't really do anything if he lashed out at this maid, his master might punish him.

His voice, muffled, spoke, "I have a strong bloodline, a proud squirrel of the twelfth generation. My ancestors reached ninth-star beast in the past."

I was amused as he spoke. Ninth-star was the pinnacle of strength here, while from my memories, a ninth-star beast was considered a legend. Looking at this cute

Squirrel, it was almost impossible to believe that its ancestor could reach ninth-star. I didn't respond, while Luna, stunned, stopped poking his cheeks, also listening in amusement.

"Since our bloodline is very strong, Heaven has made a rule for my bloodline: anyone who breaks through to the third-star beast will face a calamity," Seo explained.

Luna was stunned. Most people don't face calamities upon breakthrough, unless they possess extremely rare bloodlines that can

fight Heaven or defy it. Her eyes grew even more curious about the squirrel's origin as it continued. Its voice was very proud, with a cute smugness, though there was a hint of sadness as it continued.

"Our bloodline was nearly wiped out. I'm one of the few left because we didn't have protectors; our ancestors are dead. And we have to face the calamity alone, which most

of my bloodline has succumbed to. If Master doesn't help me, I might face the same fate."

I nodded, satisfied by his explanation, then dismissed him. "Don't breakthrough to three-star yet. Wait until I tell you to."

Seo didn't ask why, but he was a bit curious, and he nodded. I couldn't really protect him yet, since my power was too low. If I wanted to ensure everything was fine, I'd need to

reach Core Formation, or at least the late or peak stages of Foundation Establishment.

As I dismissed them, I spoke to Luna, "Give him some boundaries. Don't do anything that will make him too uncomfortable."

Luna pouted a bit, knowing that a pet could talk, and it was a very rare one at that, and adding to that, it was very cute. She had to

hold back, and she nodded. Luna grabbed Seo to feed him. Seo didn't retort, mostly used to Luna's clinginess towards him.

I sighed, stretching my body. I was quite tired of what had just happened. I'll need to rest; no need for cultivating. There was no rush in this peaceful life I'm having.

I tried to sleep soundly, as if I had no care about the world, but somehow I couldn't sleep, as if something was bothering me. I sighed. Since I couldn't sleep, I opened the window and saw the moonlight. A bitter smile escaped my lips.

I sat down by the window, staring at the night as stars shimmered in the darkness. I thought about my bitter past. I didn't hate

anyone. If I were to hate someone, it would be myself, for being so trusting of everyone. Thinking I was the strongest, I became too arrogant. I summoned my sword qi, looking
