Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Invitation to the Hollow

It was 4:33 AM when Elena Morgan first laid eyes on Thornfang Hollow.

The car's headlights sliced through the thick fog, revealing the vague outline of the town—a ghost forgotten deep within the folds of time. A silver full moon hung high over the mountain peaks, casting a cold light over every shadow.

Her fingers gripped the steering wheel tightly, her heartbeat syncing with the rhythmic tapping of rain against the windshield.

"Are you really going back?" she whispered to herself.

The GPS was dead, and her phone showed no signal, as if the town itself was rejecting her.

The disappearance of her mother hung over her like a heavy shadow, pressing down on her heart. Her mother's last words still echoed in her ears: "If I disappear, go there. Go to the Hollow."

Elena had once thought it was a delusion, the ramblings of a mind unhinged. But the strange envelope and the photo changed everything; suddenly, it all felt real.

A storm of emotions churned inside her—fear, doubt, longing, and an indescribable resolve.

She knew that this time, she was not just confronting the past's secrets.

The car slowly rolled into town, where dilapidated street lamps emitted a faint yellow glow. Shops were shuttered, streets silent, save for the whisper of the wind.

She parked, took a deep breath, and opened the door. A cold breeze, scented with earth and pine needles, rushed over her.

She walked toward the town center as the old clock tower struck five, its chimes echoing through the empty streets. At the corner, a silver-gray shadow flickered past, eyes glinting in the dark.

"Elena?" A low voice called out from behind.

She turned to see a figure standing in the shadows, his gaze deep and inscrutable.

"Who are you?" she asked, wary.

"Kael," he replied softly. "You shouldn't be here. Not at this hour."

She bit her lip, heart pounding. "I have to find my mother."

Kael's eyes darkened. "Thornfang Hollow is not an ordinary town. There are wolves here. Real wolves."

"Elena, come with me." He extended his hand.

She hesitated, then finally took his hand.

They walked into the forest at the town's edge, where the mist grew thicker. Suddenly, a wild howl rang out in the distance, shaking her to the core.

Kael gripped her arm tightly. "This is part of your world now. You have to face it."

A pair of eyes stared at them from the darkness—cold, sharp, unblinking.

Elena looked into those dark eyes, feeling a mix of fear and excitement.

She knew the real story was just beginning.

The night air was heavy with moisture and the scent of damp earth. Each breath Elena took felt like inhaling secrets long buried beneath layers of moss and shadow. The forest around them seemed alive, ancient trees standing sentinel, their gnarled branches reaching toward the sky like crooked fingers.

Kael led her deeper into the woods, his footsteps sure and steady despite the uneven ground. Elena's heart pounded not only from the cold but from the raw energy pulsing in the air—a primal tension she could almost taste.

"Why am I here?" she finally asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Kael paused and looked at her with a seriousness that silenced the night sounds.

"Because your blood calls you. Because your mother's fate is tied to this place. And because you are more than you realize."

Elena shivered, though she wasn't sure if it was from the chill or from the weight of his words. Memories flashed through her mind: fragments of childhood, strange dreams, fleeting glimpses of something wild and untamed within her.

"What do you mean?" she pressed.

"Your family carries the mark of the wolf," Kael explained. "A lineage older than this town itself. And now, the time has come for you to awaken."

Suddenly, a sharp crack echoed nearby. Both froze. Elena's eyes darted toward the sound.

From the shadows emerged a large figure, eyes glowing amber with an intensity that made her heart leap. It was a wolf—massive, majestic, and undeniably real.

Kael stepped forward, his presence commanding.

"Don't be afraid. This is your protector."

Elena felt a strange warmth radiate from the creature, as if it recognized her on a level deeper than words.

The wolf let out a low growl, then slowly sat back on its haunches, eyes never leaving Elena.

She reached out tentatively, fingers trembling, and touched the wolf's thick fur.

A jolt of electricity shot through her, and suddenly, the world seemed sharper—sounds clearer, scents stronger, her own senses heightening.

Kael smiled faintly. "You're beginning to see."

The forest seemed to breathe with her, every leaf shimmering with newfound clarity. The fog that once clouded her mind now parted, revealing truths she had been too afraid to face.

"Your mother was one of us," Kael said softly. "She fought to protect this secret world from those who would destroy it."

Elena swallowed hard. "Then why did she disappear?"

Kael's gaze darkened. "Because the enemy is closer than you think. Thornfang Hollow is a battleground, and the war has just begun."

Elena's thoughts swirled in a storm of fear and determination. This was no longer about finding her mother—it was about embracing a destiny she had never imagined.

"Teach me," she whispered.

Kael nodded, eyes gleaming with approval. "We have much to do, and little time."

Together, they disappeared deeper into the Hollow, where the wolves howled and shadows danced—a world waiting to reclaim one of its own.
