Chapter 1 - The lizard clan

Ami ran through the streets of Konoha, wearing a tracksuit. She needed to be faster, stronger, more enduring, if she wanted to survive what was to come. You see, Ami Aru had lived a life before this one, one in a world of peace, which she found unbelievably dull. She had prayed to live in a more adventurous world and someone or something had listened, plucking her from her boring life and placing her in the body of Ami Aru, a character which was -to her knowledge- only seen once, bullying Sakura. It was her destiny to be a background character. Ami never worked out and though her grades were good, good grades weren't enough to make you a competent shinobi. She had been vain, valuing her looks over her training. No more!

Ami had been training for six months now and she had improved massively. Call it anime logic or whatever but her improvements were far beyond what someone on earth could do. She ran in the mornings before heading to the academy, did chakra control exercises during lunch break, did strength training in the afternoon and studied after that. During the academy time, they learned taijutsu, genjutsu, the academy three, shuriken and kunai techniques and so much more.

Ami headed to her home, where she took a short shower and changed into her day clothes, a nice pair of pants, a black shirt and her purple hair done up in a bun, otherwise the hair got in the way. She walked towards the academy and thought of the future. She had to get into a good genin team. Her best way of doing so? Outshine Sakura and take her place in team seven. She never liked Sakura, the useless girl and in real life, she was even more annoying. Ami couldn't get what she saw in Sasuke. Brooding and cold had never been Ami's type. There were so many better options! But whatever. She went to her classroom and sat down. The others filed in one after another, some she recognised from the anime whilst others were background characters, like she had been. She knew them of course, she had Ami's knowledge after all but after she had awakened, she no longer hung out with her clique, too focused on training.

Iruka sensei walked in, "Hello children. Today's topic is summoning jutsu, also known as the art of the familiar spirit. We have already talked about this a few months ago but now, we will dive into the more practical applications. I'll show you one of my summons to demonstrate", he took his finger to his canines and slit it open to drop some blood on a scroll. He formed Seals and a ninken, a ninja dog, appeared in a puff of smoke, "As you can see, you need to drop a drop of blood on your scroll. You can make a contract with one specific animal or with an entire clan or species. If you make a contract with a species, the more chakra you put into it, the more or stronger animals will be summoned. Now, how do you get a summoning contract, you might ask? Well, there are three ways. The easiest is to study under someone who already has a contract. You can also find summonable beasts out in the world, through sheer luck. The trickiest option of getting a summoning contract is performing the seals, bear -> Dog -> Bird -> Monkey -> Ram. This is the standard summoning technique and- when performed without the use of a summoning scroll, you are whisked away to the summons that most align to you. That is how the legendary Sannin Jiraiya got his toad contract. This can work out good but it is just as likely that the summon you align with kills you, so I don't recommend it"

Ami's ears perked up. A summoned beast is a huge advantage. If she got lucky, she might even get to go to the toads or slug and learn senjutsu. The snakes were less preferable but… well, she wanted a more adventurous life! Can't back away just because it could be dangerous. Everything worthwhile was a little dangerous.

So, after the academy, she sat down in her room -her parents were away on a deal, they were both merchants- and performed the seals. Bear -> Dog -> Bird -> Monkey -> Ram.

She could feel her chakra flowing through each of the seals until she heard a *click* and was gone in a puff of smoke.

She closed her eyes, praying she got something good. When she wasn't mauled by whatever summon she was transported to, she opened her eyes. She in the middle of a desert, with a small oasis located in it. She had to be somewhere in the land of wind. Around the oasis, on rocks lounged lizards, some as small as her pinky, whilst others as big as houses. The biggest, which she stood before was massive, it looked at her with a glint of surprise in its eyes, "Who are you? How did you get here?"

Ami bowed before the great lizard, "My name is Ami Aru and I seek a summoning contract"

It paused, observing the still bowing human, "it has been 50 years since the last summoner of the Lizard clan died. Shiromari, one of us, still hasn't returned. I am… reluctant to hand out our summoning contract to just anyone. Why do you seek our contract? You seem so young still"

"I have seen a grim future, threats that loom. The ten tails, Madara Uchiha, the fourth great ninja war. To survive through any of that, I need to be stronger"

"You see the future? Like the great toad sage?"

"Kinda… I saw one future, starting from a year or so in the future and ending in a few more years. So many casualties, so much death, I want to change that" Ami gripped her t-shirt harder.

"I sense no deception in your voice. Either you truly have seen a future or you at least believe you have… if what you say is true then… the lizard clan can no longer just be silent observers… I shall give you our summoning scroll, Ami. I hope you use it wisely"
