It crashed between Liliette’s pale, bare feet, shattering on impact and sending sharp shards across her skin. She recoiled, squeezing her eyes shut. Before the echo of the crash faded, a maid barely half Liliette’s height suddenly appeared from behind the pile of blankets on the cart.
“M-My lady! Let me clean that up for you!” she stammered in a panicked voice.
Liliette’s eyes snapped open. Coming to her senses, she raised a hand to stop the maid. “No! Don’t come any closer!” she commanded.
