Chapter 15 - Chapter 14: The Quiet Burn

I'm not the kind of girl who thrives on drama. I'm not the type to wear a mask just to get revenge.

But now that I know how low they're willing to go—how easily they can break someone who only ever chose to trust them—well, that's a different story.

I didn't do this to hurt them. I did it so they could taste their own game.

I entered their lives quietly. No noise. No spectacle. Just the right smile, at the right moment, for the right person—and suddenly, I was real to them.

"Best, you're actually so nice," Samantha once said while we were fixing our hair in the restroom.

I looked at her through the mirror. I smiled—a little forced, but just enough so she wouldn't notice.

"You too, Sam. That's probably why we clicked so fast."

Smiling like that every day can get exhausting. But it was worth it. With every "best" she threw at me, I felt how shallow her definition of friendship really was—how quick she'd throw it away for her own amusement.

With Axel, it was easier. Typical guy.

We weren't even that close yet, but he already had this charming smile. Always some random "by the way" question, even when he didn't really care about the answer.

"Kiera, wanna grab coffee after class?" he once asked, leaving Samantha behind just to walk me upstairs.

I glanced at him. Read the tone of his voice. It wasn't disrespectful—but clearly, he was used to getting attention.

"Sure. But just friends, okay?" I said, smiling without a trace of nervousness. Because I knew deep down, he already preferred talking to me over his own girlfriend.

So I wasn't surprised when he messaged me one night.

Axel: "You're the kind of girl a man needs in his life. You're peace in chaos."

Peace in chaos?

Who do you think you're fooling, Axel?

But of course, I replied differently.

"Axel, I don't want to be part of the mess. If you're serious, prove it. Show me I'm worth the risk."

Simple. But just enough to push him closer to the edge.

That's when I saw how weak he was when faced with temptation.

No warning. No second thoughts. Just a few days later, I heard in the hallway—

"Sam and I broke up. We weren't really okay to begin with."

Really?

Because yesterday, you two were all sweet behind the canteen.

And now I'm your priority?

It's funny. He actually thought I had fallen for him.

But what they don't know is—I've been playing them all along.

One step at a time, at my own pace.

The truth?

They were the ones holding the bomb.

I just lit the fuse.

And while they slowly crumble under their own choices, me?

I stay quiet in the corner. Calm. Watching. Like I know nothing.

Because the most brutal revenge doesn't need to be loud.

You just let them feel it.

Bit by bit.

Until they fall apart on their own.
