Crack.
A faint but unmistakable sound echoed from deep inside Levy's chest so quiet at first it seemed like the ghost of a noise, yet sharp enough to slice through the suffocating exhaustion clouding his mind.
Another crack followed. Then another.
It felt as if something ancient, something tightly bound for generations, was beginning to split open inside him.
Inside his chest, around his weakened heart, tiny circular seals light green in color, almost translucent had long sat dormant since the day he first ever got it. They circled his heart like chained rings, each one holding a piece of his bloodline's curse locked in place.
Now, those seals trembled.
Thin fracture lines spread across their surfaces, glowing faintly, almost pulsing in rhythm with his heartbeat.
Thump… thump… thump.
The beats grew heavier, louder, faster each one pushing against the weakening constraints.
Crack… crack…
The seals split wider.
And then
BOOM.
