Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Hidden Intentions

A voice echoed in her ear, The Vexer doing his best to ruin her mood again. "Remember: This is a mission. No 'Side Quests.'"

Kira waved a hand at her ear as if there was a fly buzzing there. "Yeah yeah, leave me be you nuisance."

A woman's voice answered her, laced with mirth. "That's rich coming from you." Rowe, with her ever-present need to get the last word.

Kira ignored her, dusting off her jacket before strolling into the junkyard like she belonged there. "And remember to be natural. We don't need any unnecessary interruptions to the mission."

She huffed in response. "You all seem to forget I grew up in the slums. Trust me, I don't need my speed to get by."

Eventually, Kira just took the ear piece out, much to the displeasure of Vex. He always hated when she called him that, but it was fun seeing that vein pop on his forehead as he tried to keep his composure.

Anyway, it wasn't long before she arrived at her quarry: A particularly clean part of the yard, full of half-fixed vehicles and random objects waiting to be picked up. And her trained eyes also took keen notice in the cleverly hidden cameras dotted around, as well as the poorly hidden electrical fence around the edge.

Hmm, seems like the kid found a new reason for security. The cameras are new, but the fence's been here for a while. She though while making her way to the entrance.

As she walked in, she nearly though she could hear strange sounds coming from under a half-fixed truck, but the sensation was quickly replaced by the sound of metal on metal, like someone was bashing a reluctant bolt out of place.

"You. Fucking. Annoying. Piece. Of. Shit. Just. Come. Loose already!" Heh, so the miracle machinist isn't as perfect as people say.

Kira coughed lightly to announce her presence to the kid, who finished whatever he was doing before climbing out to see the day.

He was...more than she thought he'd be. Much younger at the very least. He had a shaggy mop of hair, full of grease and dirt yet still managing to look somewhat good. A squared jawline which was coming into shape, giving away how young he was. His eyes were pretty as well, a soft green color that seemed to glow in the sun. And to wrap it all together, his skin was pleasantly tanned, making him a surprisingly handsome kid, especially one in the Ironridge of Duskpoint city.

The kid wiped his hands on a clean rag instead of offering her one, seemingly out of politeness. "Griffin Walker. You here for a job?" He glanced behind her as if to point out the lack of broken things she had brought.

Kira smiled kindly. "Just here for a visit for now, heard that you can fix nearly anything, or even build stuff?"

Griffin seemed to stiffen a little at the latter part, and avoided eye contact. "Sure, but depending on the job it'll cost you more."

There's something there. "Well, let me see what you're working on and we can go from there." Griffin eyed her warily, seemingly weighing his options before nodding.

He gestured to the truck he was working on. "This is more along what I usually do. This one was rusted out when I got her, but a little cleaning and reinforcing does the job."

He even let her take a peek under the hood, showing her just how rusted the parts he'd yet to get to were and what he'd done to fix the others. "This is real impressive Griffin, can I call you that? What about those over there?" She asked before her eyes caught sight of trucks that had no right being in a junkyard.

Griffin seemed to tense up at the mention of them, but showed her anyway. "Local business caught wind of what I can do and put me to work. I don't get information, just the cars, but I think they're a security force. Probably not ever given the proper equipment and decided on a cheaper option."

Kira didn't know the details, but she did know that a few of the trucks had cleverly hidden armor pieces in them. Either this kid's not as good as we thought, or he's smarter than we imagined.

She smiled, patting him on the back. "What if I told you I could get you out of this place?"

Griffin couldn't even hold himself for a second, busting out with a belly laugh. "Haha! Do you know how many people have told me that? What are you, some kind of kiddie diddler? I know I look good, but I don't think I'm small enough to be apart of use to your usual clientele."

"..." For once, Kira though she knew what Vex felt.
