Chapter 5 - S1 E5 - LHS1361

The ships landing gear groaned under the intense wind speeds making Kilo rather nervous and started to question if his ship could handle such extreme conditions. The hail was no problem but these catastrophic winds were truly something else, with the fear of his ship being tossed around creeping in he fired up the manoeuvring thrusters. The manoeuvring thrusters shot out flames in an instant firmly planting the shit on the planets surface with one goal in mind, to keep the ship in that spot.

As the wind speeds increased the ship gradually lost stability. the torrential downpour muddied the ground making the ships landing anchors lose all support while simultaneously making the ship sink slightly. Alarms sounded with orange lights flickering warning that the ship was at risk of an uncontrolled ascent, the wind speeds increased to similar cataclysmic levels like the storm before he landed.

Time and options were very limited, the alarms continued to grow louder with lights flickering in more rapid succession creating an unbelievably stressful situation. The only option he saw himself making it alive was to make one hell of a takeoff and ascend out of the storm. The wind had finally taken control of the ship as Kilo decreased the thrust of the engines pushing the ship down. The wind took hold of the ship as he pushed the throttle to it's breaking point, the wind almost took control of the ship but he managed to spin the ship to face the wind in hopes an updraft would force the ship to ascend. Fighting the controls he ascended with the launch thrusters burning hotter and brighter than the had ever before, as the ship climbed it proved far more difficult to control than Kilo thought as the winds gained strength. The ship spun as a cross wind slammed into the ship taking it along the wind current.

Warnings sounded through the cockpit as the ship continued to be propelled through the wind current. With the situation becoming more dire with each passing second he was quickly running out of options to save himself, the controls snapping against Kilo's will as the auto dampening systems struggled to keep up with the rapid tumbling. Time seemed to slow as he was being tossed around with mere seconds feeling like hours, three options were left by this point and Kilo didnt like any.

With little time left he chose the riskiest option of a sub light speed jump out of atmosphere. The ship whined as power diverted to engines while the ship's computer ran calculations on the sub light speed jump. Prepping a ship for this sort of speed along with such high speeds in atmospheric conditions caused the ship to shake violently setting off numerous alerts but Kilo ignored all warnings. The window of successfully jumping into space was quickly narrowing as the ship tumbled through the sky, the ship's computer struggled to keep up with the extreme calculations but it managed. In a blink the ship left the atmosphere blasting a hole in the storm from the near light speed jump.

Breathing a sigh of relief as he sat in orbit rethinking his life decisions, he was alive but the ship did not make it out unscathed. New alerts started to appear on the ship's interface indicating damage to the hull, thrusters, power plant and various other subsystems. He wanted to sit in orbit for the storm to pass and find a new way into the wreck but the distress beacon was gone leaving no way to know where the wreckage was much to his disappointment. With a damaged ship and no point to return to that god forsaken planet he returned to Prospect station.
