Chapter 58 - The Price of Mercy

"You don't know how bad I want a shower", Anna whined as the group made their way through the forest.

Lyra nodded her head in agreement. "You do smell like shit."

Anna's head quickly whipped around at Lyra glaring at her. "WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!"

"I guess as you get older your hearing is getting worse right?"Lyra mocked. "I said you smell like shit."

"I don't care if we just got you back Lyra, I will end you. Do you hear me I will fucking end you!"Anna growled.

"Do your worst," Lyra replied.

Sami just sighed in exasperation at the duo, not even reunited for more than hour yet already arguing. At this point I don't know if they fight to annoy each other or because they find it fun.

With Sami's clone off keeping the goblins distracted, it'll be easy for them to sneak off the island. That's if Anna and Lyra don't end up destroying each other before then.

Though maybe sending a clone was a little overkill. Anna and Sami did find out they were celebrating a festival. Something about uniting the various clans or what not.

Truthfully Sami didn't care, he really just wanted to hurry and escape the island. Gosh he can only imagine how angry his grandfather probably is with them sneaking away.

Onyx has been inside of the familiar's mark conserving extra energy in case they needed extra help fighting. Hades knows what the heck Onyx could do in her bunny form. It's the thought that truly counts.

"So how are we escaping the island? Please tell me we don't have to take a boat.", Lyra asked Sami.

Sami titled his head to the side for a moment. "It's better if you see for yourself, my words wouldn't do it justice."

"Ugh fine bookworm but our ride better be cool as shit", Lyra whined.

"It's so freaking cool and it flies", Anna gushed as she jumped on Lyra's back.

"GET OFF OF ME", Lyra yelled as she kept trying to pry Anna's arms off from around her neck.

"I"LL NEVER LET GO AGAIN!", Anna replied.

Sami sped up walking, ignoring the entire commotion. They're lucky that all the goblins and cyclops are busy with celebration. Sami can only imagine how many battles they would have to fight.

Morwen felt the castle shake as the humans entered and left. She can only shake her head in disappointment at the amount of noise they were making.

If she didn't make sure the castle was clear, it wouldn't matter how strong they could be. When you're getting swarmed by multiple monsters you'll eventually get tired. Especially if you don't have an exit to get away.

Morwen watched from the glass ball she had in her room as she watched Lyra argue with Anna. She saw Sami look upon the scene with fondness. Morwen waved her hand, changing the scene.

Morwen watched as Sami's clone summoned a bunch of spears before killing the cyclops champion. The power Mercer's grandson held she can feel through the ball. She can legit taste coming off of him is so powerful.

Even if it was a clone, the clone only shows how powerful the real version of him could be. If she could corrupt him into becoming one of her tools, the amount of power she would gain from him.

Alas it isn't meant to be with her master needing him instead. Needing Sami to willingly give his blood to help break the seals holding back the demon army.

Maybe one day she can gain his allegiance, though that's long ways away. First she has to finish the plans that she put in place a month ago.

She purposely kidnapped Lyra knowing Sami wouldn't sit idle waiting for the school to save her. Morwen knew that he would eventually come looking for her. This would give the people she planted inside the school to look for the grimoire hidden by Lyra's mother.

All the knights that went missing, or died not only helped fuel her spell to summon one of the wayobs. She interrogated them for information, and luckily for her not many people know her mom is hidden in the academy.

The hard part now is figuring out where Lyra's mom is hidden and in turn finding out where the damn grimoire is. Though it's only a matter of time before she gets her hands on it.

Morwen waved her hand as the crystal ball's image turned to Poke. Rather Poke knows it or not he has slowly been getting corrupted by her hand. Well not fully by her hand.

Deep in his soul was a hidden entity, a once powerful god. Who agreed to once follow her in exchange for knowledge. Who knew that this poor soul was his reincarnation. So many years later things come full cycle.

That same anger, that same jealousy is like watching a script play out. One that already once happened before.

The silly games we must play to gain back the power we all once had. Morwen let out a sigh. For how powerful she is, she can't harness naturally like Sami or Lyra. Having to rely on rituals.

Soon everything will come to plan, and she will be able to restart her clan. This time with God of Mischief himself.

"THIS IS WHAT WE ARE RIDING ON", Lyra yelled in shock as she turned to Angel. "How do you even have enough magic to summon something this large?"

Angel shrugged in response. "Honestly it's part of my clan's grimoire truthfully if we didn't have that I couldn't imagine my sister and I being able to summon anything."

"I see", Lyra responded. Slowly walking towards the dragon and putting it's head.

You can hear the dragon letting a small purr as Lyra pet it. While Lyra was with Angel checking out the dragon. Anna and Sami were busy checking supplies making sure they had enough for the trip back.

Luckily they could catch a couple fish if needed before reaching the mainland. It should take about four days to reach the academy give or take. Anna could make the sky rain if they needed extra drinking water.

Overall they're in a good spot for travel, thankfully the dragon didn't need to eat. Could imagine having to carry around enough food to feed this giant thing.

Poke watched everything from the saddle of the dragon, waiting for the others to join in. He couldn't help but feel irritated at the fact Lyra didn't even care he was there.

Pretty much ignoring his presence, yet thanking Angel for helping her. His hands were turning bright red from how hard he was clutching his fist.

Even with everyone around him laughing, being free he felt alone. Maybe the voice was right, if he gave into it things would be better. It's better than the cycle of dealing with people like Sami and Lyra.

Sami glanced up at the saddle and couldn't help feeling a strange concern for Poke. Though he ignored the feeling as he threw the rest of the packs up on the dragon.

Sami then helped Angel and Lyra into the dragon's saddle before Anna jumped up on her own. With Angel commanding the dragon to take flight, finally leaving this journey and island behind.
