Chapter 17 - Chaos_3

Most of the kids were dead, their bodies were lying all over the place, Sarah couldn't hold any more and started vomiting after seeing the teared up bodies of the kids.

The floor had turned into a lake of blood.

Hands, legs, heads and even the internal organs were scattered all over the place. Not even a single body was left in a single piece.

The monsters didn't even take more than 10 minutes to kill all of them.

Matthew and Ethan rolled their eyes all over the place for a few seconds but they couldn't find the bodies of Victor and his group.

"I think Victor's group is safe!" Matthew exclaimed.

"Yeah. Me too!" Ethan added.

"I thought they also couldn't survive the monsters' attack!" Emily added.

"Hey, don't say such kind of things at this very moment!" Ryan yells at her.

"Don't just stay here, let's get the hell out of here quickly!" Ethan added, all of them except quickly moved out of the auditorium from the same door.

"Where the hell are you guys going?" Ryan cried.

"We are moving out, so that we don't die here." Ethan shouts.

Ryan didn't reply back, instead he followed them quietly.

They walked on the small path towards the cafeteria, taking cover at the corners to look out for those monsters' location.

They somehow reached the cafeteria, within minutes.

Matthew closes the door but suddenly remembers that they already broke the glass on it.

"I think we should hide in the kitchen for a few minutes until we figure out a way out of here." Matthew suggests.

"Okay." Emily replies.

The moment Sarah turned, she saw the Principal's mutilated body, barely recognizable. The monster had utterly destroyed it: one arm and both legs were savagely torn off, and his chest was ripped wide, a horrifying, gaping cavity.

Sarah screams at her highest out of fear, all of them quickly turn around to see the remains of their Principal's corpse.

"The fuck happened here?" Ethan managed to choke out.

Before anyone could move, a loud, metallic crash echoed from the adjacent kitchen room, located next to the cafeteria's food counter.

The "Staff Only" sign hanging there was now a gruesome warning, completely stained with dark blood.

"Grab something!" Matthew suggests, his eyes locked at the sound coming out of the kitchen.

"What?" Ethan questions.

"I said grab something in your hands."

Matthew quickly gets his hands on an iron rod lying at the left corner of the cafeteria. Sarah picks up a steel tray from the nearby table at her right side.

Both Ethan and Ryan enter the cafeteria with two axes in their hands. And Emily holding a broomstick in her hands.

"Axes?" Matthew gaped, "Where did you find those?"

"Outside, near the store area." Ethan hissed.

"The real question is, why was anyone stocking lumberjack gear in a school cafeteria?" Sarah asked.

"They can't answer," Emily said, "They're dead."

The kitchen door burst inward. Hearing the noise, the monster jumped into the doorway.

It looked at the friends, making a low, wet, horrible noise with its huge jaws, showing it meant to kill them immediately.

The friends were suddenly overcome with fear; their weapons felt heavy and useless. They were shaking, realizing they were all about to die violently.

"I said it earlier, it's a bad idea!" Ryan shares his thoughts.

"For now, focus on killing it!" Matthew declares.

He attacks on the monster with that iron rod, but the monster ignores it, simply batting the weapon away with his arm.

A crushing backhand sent Matthew flying, and he hit the ground with a grunt, his right shoulder screaming in pain as blood immediately soaked through his shirt.

The monster doesn't waste a moment, roars back at the rest and lunges towards them to attack but on the right time Ethan attacks him with his axe, cutting down his right arm.

But, it was useless. The monster regenerates his arm in no time. In the space of a single breath, a fully formed arm was back in place.

The monster grabbed the axe from Ethan's shocked grip and hurled him aside with the same brutal force that had thrown Matthew.

Survival seemed impossible. Ethan was weaponless and stunned. Matthew was injured. Emily, though focused, stood no chance with brute force, and Ryan and Sarah were paralyzed, their shaking bodies on the verge of collapse.

Emily's eyes were locked on the creature's face, not in fear, but in a frantic search for the smallest flicker of a weakness.

Meanwhile, Matthew dragged himself up, ignoring the burning pain in his shoulder.

"The head. It has to be the head." Matthew speaks to himself.

Driven by a final, primal instinct, he lunged again, not caring about the monster's massive reach.

He snatched Ethan's discarded axe from the ground, a desperate, final weight in his good hand. He swung, not with finesse, but with a primal, desperate chop, aiming for the monster's neck.

The heavy blade bit deep, shattering the chitinous shell and severing the head from the monstrous body.

The massive figure instantly went limp, collapsing with a heavy, wet thud. Silence returned to the area, broken only by the ragged breathing of the survivors.

Matthew stood over the corpse, covered in thick, black-red gore, the heavy axe dripping in his grip. The danger was over, but the horror had just begun.

Matthew puts down the axe on the floor and then himself sits down next to the dead body of the monster.

Ryan and Emily quickly went to pick up Ethan, while Sarah held off Matthew by his left shoulder. Ethan was also bleeding badly, it seems that his left arm had broken.

Suddenly the second monsters crashed into the cafeteria. Sarah and Ryan quickly scream out loud at their highest.

Emily looks at it with horror, as both Matthew and Ethan are out of energy and their strength isn't enough to kill them.
