The old man—the Sect Master—looked furious.
His name was Lucas.
Though he was looking ferocious, inside, his mind was still working clearly.
He was desperate to obtain Logan's secret technique, yes.
But had he lost the ability to think rationally?

He didn't want to kill Mirena.
He only wanted to intimidate her, to confirm she truly didn't know anything about the technique.
After all, if she did… then why had his son lost so easily to Logan?
Deep down, Lucas had a hunch.
He believed that neither Mirena nor anyone else in the Smith family actually knew the secret behind Logan's strength.
But he had to test that theory for himself.
So finally, in a calm voice, Lucas asked,
"Tell me—what else have you noticed about Logan?"
But Mirena was still gasping, hunched over on the ground.
Even though Lucas had let go of her throat, her condition was still miserable.
She coughed violently, struggling just to breathe.
