Chapter 3 - THE SHADOWS IN THE NIGHT

Mia's heart was racing as she stared at the figure outside her window. She couldn't see its face, but she could sense its presence, looming over her like a specter. The scratching sound grew louder, more insistent, and Mia felt a wave of fear wash over her.

She backed away from the window, her eyes fixed on the figure. She didn't know what to do, whether to call for help or try to confront the entity. As she stood there, frozen in fear, the scratching stopped. The figure didn't move, didn't react. It just stood there, watching her.

Mia's phone was on her bedside table, and she slowly reached for it, her eyes never leaving the figure. She dialed 911, her fingers trembling as she tried to explain the situation to the dispatcher.

"I need help," she whispered, trying to keep her voice steady. "There's someone outside my window."

The dispatcher's voice was calm and reassuring, but Mia couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. "Ma'am, I'm sending someone over right away. Please stay on the line."

As Mia waited for the police to arrive, she couldn't take her eyes off the figure. It hadn't moved, hadn't reacted. It just stood there, watching her. Mia felt like she was trapped in a nightmare, and she couldn't wake up.

The minutes ticked by, and Mia heard the sound of sirens in the distance. The police arrived, and Mia saw them moving around her yard, flashlights casting eerie shadows on the walls. She watched as they approached the figure, but it was gone, vanished into the night.

The police came into her house, asking her questions, trying to reassure her that everything was okay. But Mia knew it wasn't okay. She knew that something was out there, watching her, waiting for her.

As the police left, Mia felt a sense of relief wash over her. But it was short-lived. She knew that the figure would be back, and next time, she might not be so lucky.

She tried to go back to bed, but she couldn't sleep. Her mind was racing with thoughts of the figure, the scratching sound, and the feeling of being watched. She knew that she had to do something, but she didn't know what.

The rest of the night was a blur, Mia's mind racing with fears and anxieties. She knew that she couldn't stay in her house, not with the figure lurking outside. She packed a bag, grabbed her keys, and left the house, not knowing where she was going or what she would do.

As she drove away from her house, she felt a sense of freedom, of escape. But she knew it was temporary. The figure would find her, wherever she went. And next time, she might not be so lucky.

Mia drove through the night, trying to clear her mind, trying to think of what to do next. She knew she couldn't run forever. She needed to face her fears, to confront the entity that was haunting her.

But as she drove, she couldn't shake off the feeling that she was being watched, that the figure was following her. She looked in her rearview mirror, but there was no one there. Yet, the feeling persisted.

Mia knew that she was in for a long night, a night of fear and uncertainty. But she was determined to face whatever was coming her way, to confront the horrors that haunted her. She was ready to face the darkness head-on, no matter what lay ahead.
