After looking around for a while, they left the Department of Theatre and Performance. Luna and Nikhil walked in silence . As they continued wandering through the campus, Nikhil finally broke the silence.
"Where do you wanna go next?" he asked.
Luna thought for a moment before replying with a question of her own. "Does this college have a canteen?"
She hadn't eaten anything since the afternoon. After all that running and hiding, she was starving. The hunger had been there for a while, but her priority had been escaping the kidnappers. Now that she was finally free, she could no longer ignore it.
Nikhil chuckled. "Of course, it has a canteen. Come, follow me."
He led the way, and she followed closely. After a few minutes of walking, they reached a staircase. Climbing up, they arrived at a large door with CANTEEN written in bold red capital letters above it.
To their disappointment, the door was locked. But then Luna noticed something—a window was slightly open.
Without much choice, they climbed through the window and entered the canteen. Inside, it was pitch dark. Luna instinctively reached for her phone, but then she remembered—she had lost it earlier that evening. That's why she hadn't been able to call anyone for help.
She turned to Nikhil. "Do you have your phone with you? Can you turn on the flashlight?"
To her surprise, he replied, "Well, sorry to disappoint you, but I don't have my phone with me."
Luna frowned. "Then how are we supposed to see anything?"
"Don't worry," he assured her. "I know where the light switches are. This place won't stay dark for long."
A few seconds later, the lights flickered on, illuminating the canteen. Luna blinked as her eyes adjusted, finally able to take in the surroundings.
