Chapter 11: Defeating the Little Devil
On Friday evening, Kieu Ly came to Toan Phuong's house for their scheduled session.
This time, instead of waiting for her like before, he was lazily sprawled on the sofa, scrolling through social media.
Kieu Ly set her backpack down on a chair and said firmly:
"I lost last time. I'm here to win it back."
Toan Phuong, seeing his tutor ready for another gaming round, grinned and turned on his laptop.
He brought over a plate of pre-cut fruit and placed it on the table with confidence.
"If you win, I'll listen to you. If you lose, you'll have to listen to me. Deal?"
Kieu Ly thought for a second and nodded.
"Deal."
The moment the match began, she locked into full focus.
This wasn't just a game—it was about her job, and she couldn't afford to lose.
At first, Toan Phuong still wore his usual cocky smile.
But the longer they played, the more tense he became.
He even started swearing under his breath.
Normally, Toan Phuong wasn't outright rude. He came from a well-mannered, well-educated family and knew how to behave.
But in just a short time, Kieu Ly had backed him into a corner, enough to make his true self slip out.
Two hours later, the game ended.
And the result? Kieu Ly won—by the narrowest of margins.
Toan Phuong's expression changed completely.
His face turned pale, like he couldn't believe—and didn't want to believe—what had just happened.
He wasn't obsessed with gaming, but he was damn good at it.
His usual routine was: play a game, reach top 1, get bored, and move on.
The game he had challenged Kieu Ly with? He'd once ranked number one.
And now, someone who hadn't even played that game a few days ago—someone he'd taught—had completely taken him down.
Kieu Ly casually picked up a piece of fruit and popped it into her mouth.
Then she slung her backpack over her shoulder and headed for the door.
Before leaving, she delivered her verdict:
"We've known each other for a week now.
Starting Monday, I expect you to take your studies seriously—just like we agreed."
Toan Phuong froze.
He still couldn't believe he had just lost to a girl.
But hey—if you dare to bet, you've got to accept the outcome.
He would keep his promise and study properly.
After she left, he picked up his phone and texted his friend:
"I lost to the monster. Completely destroyed."
His friend replied with a string of laughing emojis, then asked:
"So that means you actually have to study now, huh?"
Toan Phuong typed calmly:
"A deal is a deal.
But I haven't lost yet. I'll figure out a way to get her fired."
