The door shut behind us with a low, final click. For a moment, silence claimed the chambers, no crashing waves beyond the glass, no creak of footsteps in the corridor. Just the heavy breath of stillness and the scent of salt and steel and Tharion moved across the room like a tide in human form, stripping the sea-slicked cloak from his shoulders and tossing it over the chair with more force than necessary. I watched him, watched the tension crackle in the lines of his back and in the way his jaw flexed. I had seen him furious. I had seen him exhausted. But I had never seen him like this, haunted.
"Say something," he snapped, without turning. "You felt it too, didn't you?"
I stepped further into the chamber, dragging my damp coat behind me and flinging it aside. "I did not just feel it, I saw it."
