Chapter 55 - C055 : Giving Gifts

A little ways down the road, there was another shop which had a ring with a wolf engraved in it. It wasn't cheap, but Shurry picked it up too. This was a real jewelers shop so he paid for an additional service to modify the back of the necklace. Carving some words into it, however, it was written in multilingual writing. So there would only ever be one of them in the whole world.

Later, Shurry went back to Hathor familia home, where he sat at the table. Pulling out a handful of Kobold magic stones from his pocket, he ground a few of them into a fine powder. Using an odd fluid he had also made with the help of the chef, he mixed the two of the ingredients together. This is the ink he used to fill the engravings, giving it the hint of the wolf. A fragrance close to that of crisp apples.

"Oh, that's an interesting technique there, child. Where did you learn it?"

"Telskyura, the mommy I had there taught me how to make it. It can imbue a small amount of magic into any object. It's useless for making powerful items, but making items like this it's perfect." Shurry answered, remaining focused on the task at hand. Soon his work was done, he packed up, and made his way to the School District's Orario home.

…

"Mommy! Daddy!"

"Oh dear, back already?"

"Yep, I brought something to give you!" Shurry said, cheerfully wagging his tail. Inside Shurry presented two, small packages wrapped in gift wrap.

Baldr opened his up first, and was greeted by a wolf ring. Holy shit this thing can increase your agility? It's like he'll always be with me. "Thank you, son. I'll treasure it forever." Then he noticed the engraving on the inside, and smiled. "I love you too, my son." He could barely keep himself from crying as he lovingly rubbed Shurry's head.

"Tee hee! Daddy that tickles." Shurry giggled. "Now you mommy, open it!" He said with big beady and expectant eyes, sparkling with anticipation.

I know I'm going to cry, I shouldn't hold back. I wanted to send him off with a smile, but, oh well. Idunn opened the jewelry box, and covered her mouth gasping at the contents. So this is what he was actually trying to point at, he just didn't want me to figure it out, such a kind boy… Huh? What's this? She picked up the necklace, and felt a similar strange power from it, but more than that, she felt the engraving on the back of the apple shaped colored glass. "Oh darling, I'll always love you. Thank you, for this wonderful gift!"

And once again Shurry was enveloped in Idunn's sobbing embrace. "With these you'll always have me with you." He smiled.

"Oh! You're too good! I just love you so much!" Idunn began kissing Shurry's face all over.

"By the way, Shurry, I told Hera that you have joined the Hathor familia. They'll be calling on you about once every other week just like before. And it might increase to inviting you on expeditions."

"Really! That sounds like fun. Oh, but-"

"Don't worry about it, Hera understands your condition well enough. She won't force you to do something you don't want to do. But, she might try to pay more money to do it anyway."

"I'll be careful, Daddy!" Shurry smiled. "Mommy, can you take care of daddy while I'm gone? He tends to hurt himself… I don't want him to hurt himself."

"Pfft, still worried about us, even now. You're too good. Remember, not all gods are good. Some can have ulterior motives. So be careful."

"I know mommy, I know better than most. It'll be hard to find one like you and daddy. But Auntie Hathor is really nice, I think she's one of the good ones!"

"Before you know it, you'll be calling her, mommy, too."

"Uhm, not yet. I still need some time to get used to her. It feels different than with you. My inner moon seems to be shining stronger for some reason. I'll figure it out at some point."

With a few more moments of the huddle, Shurry was sent off, back to his new home. The light from outside shined bright to the point, it looked like he was walking into ascension. It was a sight that only the gods would be able to see, and maybe a level 7 could get a vague sense of it.

"He's going to become a powerful hero one day." Idunn cried, almost whimpering that she wouldn't be around to watch him grow bit by bit, every day.

Baldr remained quiet, and thoughtful for a moment. "I doubt it will be just that. I get a sense that he's going to do something huge. Something we couldn't predict. I only know that it's possible for it to happen. And I want to see what it might be. Though I doubt I'll be that lucky."

"If you're feeling it, that means Kali is definitely feeling it as well."

"You're right about that. I bet she's torn beyond belief about her decisions."

…

Telskyura, sitting on the soft cushion, watching the boring battles below, Kali sighed as a sensation from someone she had lost from her familia, flooded through her. "He's growing so much stronger. How will he develop in a land without this oppressive system? I wish I'd had the chance to apologize for lying to him."

"Lady Kali, is something wrong?"

"Oh, it's nothing, just musing over the fact that those bitches, cost me my wolf, and turned me into a liar."

"Those bitches didn't have enough blood between them to wash away even one of their crimes. I wish I could kill them a few more times for what they did."

"Well, what's done is done. We can only move forward from here. And it looks like those Kalif sisters are putting in a ton more effort now. Good, they'll go far. Make sure they actually kill their opponents please. And continue to remind the public that any similar actions on the young boys, will result in their immediate death."

"As you order, Lady Kali."
