The surge of dark Force energy abruptly disrupted Amir's anger.
In that moment, he became fully aware of his state—he was letting his emotions control him. Just one step further, and the Dark Side would begin to take root in his body. And once that happened, it would be almost impossible to restrain.
"Do not strike from anger," Amir recalled what Obi-Wan had once told him.
Gradually, he calmed himself.
Then the scene before him left him stunned.
The darkness erupting from Milisen was gripping John Morey by the throat, lifting him into the air!
Everything around them was trembling from the pressure.
"Milisen!" Amir called out loudly, seeing the look on her face. She was no longer sad—and no longer hopeful either. All that remained in her eyes was hatred.
Amir tried to disrupt her use of the dark side—but there was no response.
The air was becoming more chaotic, as if space itself was shuddering. John Morey's struggling slowed.
Amir quickly stepped forward and knelt in front of Milisen, intending to forcibly cut her off—but then he hesitated.
Looking at the girl in front of him, all he felt was sorrow. Amir reached out and gently embraced her.
"Milisen…"
Time seemed to freeze. A second later, it was as if a gathering storm had been scattered by the sun. Everything returned to calm.
Milisen looked up at Amir, then slowly closed her eyes and collapsed backward. Amir caught her and gently leaned her against the side of the medpod.
John Morey fell to the ground. He had already lost consciousness. Amir stepped forward, reached into his coat pocket, and pulled out a small cylindrical metallic tube. He inserted it into the lab's interface—it was a key with Morey's clearance.
Without wasting time, Amir plugged his wrist device into the port. A progress bar popped up on the screen—it had begun downloading the lab's data archive.
Detaching the wristpiece, Amir left it to finish on its own and turned to the medpod.
He pressed a button to open the cracked transparent lid. The girl inside had already undergone advanced healing—her body showed no visible injuries. But her eyes remained closed. She wouldn't wake up.
Amir was uneasy. He closed his eyes and tried to feel the Force around her.
His heart suddenly sped up.
He could sense the presence of life Force still lingering in Mona's body!
It was faint—but she wasn't dead.
Amir focused his perception. The concentration of life Force was less than half of what it should be—and it was slowly dissipating into the surroundings.
He had seen this before—when Charles died before his eyes, Amir had sensed his life Force dissipate rapidly, vanishing into the cosmic Force in an instant.
But this... this was different.
Mona's life Force was dissipating extremely slowly, almost as if her body were holding it back—like sand stuck in an hourglass that wouldn't pour.
But even so, the hourglass would eventually empty. Her life Force was still irreversibly fading—she was on a countdown.
Urgency flooded Amir's mind. He could feel a life slipping away before him.
He tried to guide the escaping life Force back into her body—it worked, but only barely. It wouldn't be enough to save her.
His thoughts raced. Amir desperately searched through every corner of his memory for even the slightest chance—any method that might work.
Each violent tremor of the ship sent a shiver through Gideon.
"Report! Two of our primary turrets were destroyed by the space slug. External shield energy has dropped by 43.7%!"
Gideon stared out the viewport at the massive beast latched onto the ship. Its rough, tan skin secreted a slimy mucus, covering nearly a third of the vessel.
Every squirm and impact from the creature caused shockwaves across the shields. Two main cannons had been destroyed after striking the slug's tail, triggering a furious counterattack.
Now the creature was simply using the ship as a foothold, lashing out in fury at the TIE fighters firing on it from every angle.
Suddenly, a black medium-sized vessel appeared in the distance, along with a transmission request.
Gideon accepted.
"A wise decision, Colonel. The asteroid belt's outskirts make for a lovely vacation spot," came a deep, mocking voice.
"I'm not in the mood for jokes," Gideon snapped. "Find a way to drive it off! That ship holds irreplaceable research data. If it's lost, both you and I will suffer the consequences!"
"Not we, Colonel. You will."
Gideon raised his hand as if to retort—but fell silent.
Amir suddenly remembered a passage from a small booklet—one that had only briefly mentioned the connection between life Force and the essence of life itself.
Life Force could be transferred between living beings. In one ancient tribe, it was recorded that Force-users could heal others by channeling the vitality of a powerful flower. The most vibrant and beautiful of these was called the Sanctum Bloom, capable of extending the life of the dying—or even pulling them back from the edge of death.
But afterward, the flower would wither.
Amir had no such flower.
The only life Force he could control was his own.
"Just a little... if it doesn't work, I'll have to give up on her."
The download was nearly complete. The children heading to the docking bay could run into trouble. Amir needed to act fast, finish this, and go.
Without further hesitation, he reached deep within—and released his life Force for the first time.
It flowed through his fingertips.
At first, Amir felt a flutter in his chest. He focused—no signs of physical or mental abnormalities. He kept going.
His own life Force became the guide, sweeping Mona's scattered energy back into her body. There was no resistance—the two Forces merged instantly and began to circulate within her.
"It's working!"
Amir felt Mona's life Force slowly growing stronger. He increased the output.
He could feel his own vitality thinning, but it was still within safe limits.
Suddenly, Mona's life Force hit a critical threshold. Amir paused the transfer—and to his delight, her energy no longer leaked away!
But he didn't dare relax yet.
Her vitality was still below normal. And Amir had no idea what side effects this Force transfer might bring.
After all, the soul was real—and closely linked to life Force.
He didn't want to revive Mona only to find her mind gone or her memories erased.
Then came a new change. Mona's life Force suddenly solidified and began to flow on its own within her.
Even more incredibly—it started to draw in from the surrounding cosmic Force, spinning like a vortex and absorbing tiny components from the air.
The process was rapid.
Ding! The download was complete. Amir snapped out of his focus and retrieved his wrist device.
Mona's condition had stabilized.
If he had to, he could carry them both and get out—he'd think of the rest later.
He disconnected the download and reclaimed John Morey's clearance key.
Then—a sound of water.
Amir turned around sharply.
Inside the medpod, Mona was sitting up.
A wave of joy swept through his mind. It worked. She's awake!
"Mona?" he called cautiously.
The girl wiped the medical gel from her face, brushed her hair back, and slowly opened her eyes.
She looked at Amir and blinked, confused.
"Mona?" Amir repeated, noticing her strange expression. A sense of dread crept over him.
"Who are you? How do you know my name?"
"…Hahaha."
"Why are you laughing? Milisen? What did you do to Milisen?!"
"No time to explain." Amir secured his wrist device and picked up the unconscious Milisen. "We're getting out of here. Can you walk?"
Mona glanced around—the broken machinery, the unconscious researcher, the wreckage of battle droids.
"I think…" she said, struggling to climb out of the pod, "it's going to be difficult."
The medical treatment hadn't fully healed her. Her body still needed time—and mentally, she was drained from nearly dying.
"Hang in there, Mona," Amir said, moving to her side and letting her lean on him.
"What happened to Milisen?" she asked insistently.
"She's fine—just passed out. We need to go. Now."
With that, Amir helped them both head swiftly toward the docking bay.
