They returned to the familiar Dewback Barbecue place. Thanks to last time's experience, Amir swiftly placed their order and sat down to chat with Seyn.
As before, Amir chose a corner seat. In a crowded place, there were always people listening in. He knew this because he had done it himself more than once.
Seyn updated him on the repair shop—nothing unusual, everything running smoothly. That, to Amir, was the best news possible.
"Little Jay… sigh. You know, now that all of you have left Coruscant, he's had no one to play with. He keeps nagging to come visit you," Seyn said helplessly.
"And BD—I swapped out all the busted parts on this little guy. Even replaced the old, outdated holorecorder with a newer one. I also removed the unstable motion tracker and replaced it with a backup from storage. Now, the video playback won't freeze anymore, and..."
Amir sipped his drink as Seyn proudly rattled on about his upgrades.
So that's it? One sentence for Jay's adolescent struggles, and a full report for your droid? Amir thought. Clearly BD is your real son.
Still, Amir hoped Jay could grow up peacefully on Coruscant. Unlike Lango, Veronica, or himself, Jay had a stable home, no constant danger, no deeply buried obsessions.
To Amir, Jay was like a little brother—he had watched him grow up. When Amir first arrived at Seyn's shop, Pier had just given birth to Jay.
He wanted Jay to wait safely for the inevitable war to end.
Even if war did break out, Coruscant, as a Core World, was still relatively safe.
"BD-4's staying with you this time," Seyn added. "He says he can help."
"Beep-beep-bloop!"
"Yeah, I could really use the help," Amir nodded. "You two showed up at the perfect time." He was thinking of the signal jamming issue—BD-4 would be the perfect errand runner.
"As for Jay, Pier and I have been teaching him more advanced mechanics. Thankfully, he hasn't resisted too much."
"I know he doesn't hate machines. He's even pretty talented," Amir agreed.
"But you? At his age, you were already running your own repair shop," Seyn said, shooting Amir a look.
"That's different. I loved machines. Passion is the best teacher. Jay just sorta likes speeders and ships."
"Well, you're not wrong there. I did pick it up faster than most people. My master said I had talent… What's with that look? Amir, don't forget I taught you everything you know."
"Hahaha." Amir hid his mocking gaze and reached out to take the platter of grilled meat from the server.
"Eat up—it's on me!"
"Oh? You've been out a few days and already making money?"
"How'd you guess?"
"Whenever you've got cash, you always binge on food."
Amir thought back… yeah, that was pretty accurate. Who could resist good food? And after surviving danger, didn't he deserve a reward?
"Well… this time, it was Lango paying me. A rescue fee," Amir said, looking away.
Seyn's expression shifted.
"So, where's Lango now? He told Jay over comms he wouldn't be heading back to Coruscant just yet."
"Guess he's hooked on heroics. Gurna's people still have more captives scattered around. But this time the Rebels are helping, so there shouldn't be any… I mean, probably not any real danger?"
Halfway through the sentence, Amir stopped himself.
"Hahaha! Well then, I'm sure there's nothing to worry about!" Seyn laughed, chewing a piece of meat.
Amir fought the urge to shove a handful of roasted meat into the loudmouth Twi'lek's face just to shut him up.
But it was too late.
Sorry, Lango. If anything happens, it's not my fault.
After a while, Seyn suddenly changed the subject.
"There's been some big shifts in the local underworld lately. You know how our block's always been Fox's gang's turf? Well, they all just disappeared. Some say they pissed off someone big. But from what I hear, it's not just them. Other areas are seeing the same thing."
"It's like… some massive beast just swallowed all the thugs at once."
Amir took a sip of his drink and replied, "The underworld's always been chaotic. Everyone's had their eyes on it for years. That explosion took out Vronis without a trace, and now there's a new big fish stirring up the muck."
He remembered the white squid-headed man—Senil was almost certainly involved.
"Lucky for us, we're near the Core. The Imperial Academy's just next door, and the Imperial Palace is in the adjacent district. No matter how bad it gets underground, it's unlikely to affect regular folks like us," Seyn said, almost wistfully.
"Yeah… but don't let Jay talk to Senil," Amir warned. "That Quarren."
Seeing the seriousness in Amir's eyes, Seyn didn't ask questions. He simply nodded in agreement.
After a hearty meal, Amir escorted Seyn to a cargo freighter bound for one of the main trade routes leading to Coruscant.
Mos Eisley was a waypoint for many major shipping lanes and remained one of the most prominent port cities in the Outer Rim.
From here, you could reach nearly anywhere.
BD-4 stood on Amir's shoulder, gripping his backpack strap tightly, as the two of them waved goodbye.
When Seyn's silhouette disappeared inside the freighter, Amir felt a twinge of sadness—but only for a moment.
Smiling, he patted BD-4 on the head and mounted his waiting bantha at the edge of the main road, riding off toward the desert outskirts.
Night was falling.
A robed youth and a droid rode upon a mighty beast, swaying gently as they disappeared into the heart of the dunes.
The wind was cool and dry. Looking up at the slowly brightening stars, Amir couldn't help but marvel once again at the beauty of the galaxy.
Years from now, Luke would surely feel the same.
It was that eternal yearning—the dream of countless people throughout time—that made the galaxy so colorful.
But it was still far from perfect.
Beneath the vibrance, freedom, and prosperity… there still lurked endless darkness.
So it wasn't time to rest just yet.
Amir knew—
It was time to move on.
