Chapter 52: Awakening of the Eye Technique
Dream Space.
Orochimaru quickly formed hand seals.
"Summoning Jutsu!" Bang!
A massive shadow surged forward as the figure of Ten Thousand Snakes materialized.
"Susanoo!" Kaien's pupils ignited with intensity as a towering chakra entity burst from the earth.
Skeletons... flesh... armor.
RUMBLE! A violent surge of chakra rocked the dreamscape.
Kaien's Susanoo pulled out the Yasaka Magatama and launched it.
The enormous snake-beast couldn't evade.
"Thud!" With a muffled roar, the Ten Thousand Snakes shed a layer of skin and escaped the direct blow.
"Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!"
A whirlwind blasted from Orochimaru's mouth, sending dirt and debris flying. The battlefield blurred in the chaos.
Kaien remained hidden within Susanoo, biding his time.
"Boom!"
An explosion of stone—Ten Thousand Snakes erupted from behind. Orochimaru reappeared in an instant beside him!
"Many Hidden Snake Hands!"
Slamming his palms to the ground, countless venomous Snakes slithered out.
Kaien blocked the oncoming strike with Susanoo's arm, instantly dispelled it, and placed a hand atop the giant snake's head.
"Contract Seal: Release!"
"Bang!"
In a cloud of smoke, Orochimaru's summon was forcibly dismissed.
But Orochimaru wasn't done.
Another set of seals—
The Eight Branches Technique.
Slap! Slap! Slap!
Tearing through flesh, a monstrous white serpent emerged, baring its fangs and lunging at Kaien.
Kaien, gritting his teeth through the chakra drain, reactivated Susanoo and unsheathed its massive katana.
Slice! Slice!
Three heads fell in quick succession.
But it was useless. The infinite regeneration of the Yamata no Orochi meant more heads kept sprouting. Kaien was soon entangled.
The dream shattered.
Kaien opened his eyes.
Back to reality. Another failure.
Orochimaru... was actually this strong?
After Kaien had asked numerous questions about him, Orochimaru started appearing in dream training simulations. Initially, Kaien underestimated him, thinking his strengths were limited to scientific experimentation.
After all, in canon, Orochimaru was defeated with a simple Genjutsu from Itachi.
But reality struck hard.
It turned out Orochimaru's weakness to illusions didn't equate to overall weakness. He was outrageously powerful.
Kaien had fought him dozens of times in simulations, losing more than he won.
Sometimes, to the unkillable Eight Branches Technique.
Other times to the terrifying First and Second Hokage were brought back by Edo Tensei.
And sometimes, to bizarre, grotesque sneak attacks made possible by Orochimaru's absurd body modifications.
Kaien's Genjutsu simply couldn't compare.
Itachi's illusions were precise—able to sever a person's connection to their limbs.
Kaien's illusions? They merely constructed the idea of "death" in the mind. Strong but crude—and they drained enormous amounts of pupil power.
Worse, if Kaien didn't use illusions, his win rate against Orochimaru plummeted.
Kaien thought back to his previous spar with Jiraiya.
He might've held something in reserve… but in a battle to the death, the outcome would've been uncertain.
Only after facing one of the Sannin at full power did Kaien realize how many flaws he still had.
He had only beaten the likes of Itachi, Shisui, and even Fugaku due to superior pupil power. Their illusions had little effect on him.
In terms of Susanoo, Kaien was also unmatched.
Itachi's fully formed Susanoo topped out at around 20 meters.
Kaien's, however, stood over 70 meters tall, and continued to grow alongside his ocular power.
Aside from that, Kaien also possessed an arsenal of sealing techniques—he could seal opponents within moments.
But… there was one glaring issue.
He lacked a true killing technique.
Itachi had Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi—deadly, iconic powers.
Kaien?
He had one disposable trump card… usable only once.
And once it was gone, it was gone.
"If only my eye technique was offensive…" he thought.
He needed something lethal.
A technique that cut through everything -straightforward and devastating.
As this thought took root in his heart, Kaien felt a stir in his Sharingan.
No way…?
The Mind's Mirror Eye—as the name implies—required an overwhelming will to awaken its technique.
Obito awakened Kamui because, after Rin's death, he wished to escape reality, so he gained a power that allowed dimensional escape.
Shisui, yearning for peace, awakened the power to alter thoughts.
Itachi's awakening followed Shisui's death. His ideals were more extreme: if peace couldn't be achieved, then destruction was necessary. Thus, Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi were born.
Fugaku, obsessed with the clan's future, awakened a technique that could construct possible futures.
And Kaien?
After reincarnating into this world, he'd always felt… detached.
No wars. No true hardships. Not even a sense of belonging.
His only clear memory was Susanoo—its overwhelming might.
And so, naturally, Susanoo came easily. All its stages, all its forms—it grew with no effort.
But his kaleidoscope technique?
It never came.
Because Kaien never had that one, burning will to shape it.
Until now.
He recalled how he crushed Killer Bee.
How he survived Sannin-level threats.
How he longed not for illusions, not for fancy tricks, but for one thing:
A blade to cut through all things.
And as that desire took hold—
Kaien's Sharingan spun violently.
The inner flower bloomed outward, twisting as three lines extended toward the outer rim.
"Thump. Thump. Thump…"
Pupil power surged outward like ripples on a still lake.
Every remaining Uchiha nearby—anyone with even a three-tomoe Sharingan—felt it.
A pulse. A resonance. A presence.
They turned, wide-eyed.
"Was that… Kaien-sama?"
A hush fell across the compound.
That pupil force—it felt different. It felt special.
Was Kaien-sama… awakening his Hitomi Technique?
…
