Chapter 22: Dream Training
It had been a while since Itachi left.
As time passed, the popularity surrounding the Uchiha clan began to fade.
Kaien, who had once cared a great deal about public opinion, was now incredibly busy.
A new function had appeared in his faction template.
Within the faction interface, the avatars of those with high loyalty or intimacy toward Kaien were now highlighted.
Clicking on an avatar revealed a new "Dream" button.
Currently, the personnel include Fugaku, Takuya, Yuuki, Itachi, Shisui, and several other members of the Uchiha clan.
Kaien clicked on Fugaku's avatar, and a submenu opened with different categories of training.
He tapped the Taijutsu button lightly.
[Dream is being constructed… Dream constructed. — Uchiha Fugaku: Taijutsu]
Kaien lay on his bed. As soon as he closed his eyes, his consciousness entered a martial arts arena.
Fugaku appeared opposite him and began demonstrating his taijutsu step by step.
Every move was infused with Uchiha style—graceful, fluid, and dazzling.
With the help of his Sharingan, Fugaku moved with astonishing coordination, his attacks fluid and precise.
Once the demonstration ended, Fugaku rushed toward Kaien with a flying leap.
Kaien instinctively tried to use a substitution technique but realized he couldn't access his chakra.
Boom!
Kaien exploded like a shadow clone.
He opened his eyes and found himself back in his bedroom.
"So… a virtual training room?"
Kaien opened the power panel again. Fugaku's avatar had dimmed, with a countdown timer beside it.
It appeared the simulation could only be run once every 24 hours.
He then clicked on Itachi's Taijutsu.
[Dream is being constructed… Dream completed. — Uchiha Itachi: Taijutsu]
Kaien closed his eyes.
He found himself once again in a training ground, this time facing Uchiha Itachi in ANBU attire, sword in hand.
Like Fugaku, Itachi demonstrated his taijutsu. However, Itachi's focus leaned more toward kunai and shuriken techniques.
He displayed how to control shuriken mid-flight using steel wire and how to redirect kunai by striking them midair.
Kaien was in awe.
Despite having travelled and fought for months after reincarnation, thinking he was a fully capable Jonin—
He now realised the vast difference between ordinary ninjas and true geniuses.
When Itachi finished his demonstration, he, too, charged forward.
At high speed, Itachi unleashed a barrage of kunai and shuriken.
This time, Kaien was mentally prepared and used his Mangekyō Sharingan to dodge effectively.
"I do have some talent," Kaien thought.
Ping! The sound of kunai clashing.
Hiss! The sound of taut steel wires.
The previously dodged kunai changed direction, targeting Kaien again.
The arcing shuriken—guided by wires—restricted his movement path.
Kaien barely avoided them.
Itachi threw more kunai, one of which struck a kunai in midair.
Another wire snapped into place, blocking two of Kaien's retreat paths.
While Kaien focused on deflecting the shuriken, a steel wire had already coiled around him.
Itachi stepped forward.
Slice.
Kaien was cut into smoke.
He opened his eyes in shock.
"Itachi's throwing techniques… they're an art form."
Still not fully convinced, Kaien selected Elder Yohei next.
[Dream is being constructed… Dream constructed. — Uchiha Yuuki: Taijutsu]
He closed his eyes again.
A long time passed. Kaien opened his eyes and exhaled heavily.
Yohei, even in old age, forced Kaien to fight with all his might just to achieve mutual destruction.
"Not a win… a draw at best."
No one who had survived the battlefield was easy to deal with.
In the interface, Uchiha Yuuki's (Yohei's) Taijutsu tab had disappeared.
Kaien scratched his head.
"Let's try something else."
He selected Yuuki's Ninjutsu tab.
[Dream is being constructed… Dream constructed. — Uchiha Yuuki: Ninjutsu]
This time, Kaien found Yuuki explaining ninjutsu.
Most of them were Fire Release, with a few Earth techniques.
Kaien's strongest skill was also ninjutsu, but he only knew Fire Release.
He had no Earth affinity and thus had never learned Earth techniques.
His chakra attributes were Fire and Lightning, with Fire being the dominant one.
Still, following Yohei's hand seals and chakra flow, Kaien successfully cast a Fire Release.
He even attempted an Earth technique and found that, within the dream, his lack of affinity didn't matter.
After completing all techniques, Kaien expected a sparring session.
But instead, the dream ended automatically.
One category remained: Genjutsu.
[Dream is being constructed… Dream constructed. — Uchiha Yuuki: Genjutsu]
The dream consisted of theory lessons and a practical on casting and dispelling illusions.
Kaien had always been bad at Genjutsu in his past life.
Even after quickly going through the material, he still didn't fully understand it.
However, his pupil strength was too powerful.
When Yohei cast Genjutsu on him, Kaien immediately retaliated with sheer ocular power.
The dream ended.
Now, on the interface, all of Uchiha Yuuki's categories—Taijutsu, Ninjutsu, and Genjutsu—had disappeared.
Only one option remained: Actual Combat.
Kaien grinned and tapped it.
[Dream is being constructed… Dream constructed. — Uchiha Yuuki: Actual Combat]
He fell into the dream once more.
This time, it was a true battle with no restrictions.
A while later, Kaien woke up again, his expression grim.
"I didn't expect the old man to be so crafty…"
Yuuki had set up traps using shuriken and explosive tags.
Kaien was caught off guard.
In the end, it was only thanks to Susanoo that he emerged victorious.
"My actual combat ability is even worse than I thought."
When he reopened Yohei's interface, the actual combat button was still there—but it was on cooldown.
So, it could be repeated.
Next, Kaien set his sights on the Third Elder, Uchiha Takuya, and entered the dream again.
———
Morning sunlight streamed in as Kaien opened his eyes, dazed.
"So, dream time is synced with reality…"
Having not slept all night, Kaien was exhausted and incredibly drowsy.
His hard work had paid off. Aside from defeating the old Elder Yohei, he lost to Takuya in actual combat—
Though Kaien hadn't used Susanoo in that fight.
As for Fugaku, Shisui, and Itachi, they didn't have the actual combat option.
In terms of Taijutsu, Kaien was defeated.
In Ninjutsu, there was no actual sparring—just demonstrations.
Mistakes in ninjutsu could lead to chakra backlash or even a clone-like "death" in the dream.
Kaien's talent in Genjutsu was still abysmal.
He tried many times but had to accept reality:
"I'm an idiot when it comes to Genjutsu."
Though his ocular power was strong enough to escape illusions quickly, his execution was clumsy.
Only Uchiha elites with Three Tomoe could defeat him outright—or even dual Tomoe elites like Uchiha Keisuke.
Among Uchiha:
The fastest and most ferocious in swordplay was Uchiha Terumaru. The most skilled at shuriken throwing was Itachi, whose ability to change direction mid-flight was unmatched. The strongest in Genjutsu was Shisui—against whom Kaien was helpless.
Were it not for the sheer power of his Mangekyō Sharingan, Kaien would never have stood a chance.
After a full night of beatings, Kaien was worn out.
Looking at his faction template, almost everyone's dream interface was on cooldown.
Kaien closed his eyes—and this time, he truly fell asleep.
———
After waking up, he went to the training ground for physical exercise.
Then he returned and continued his dream simulations.
From then on, Kaien's days were spent in training—and his nights in dream battles.
Sometimes, when other Uchiha saw Kaien on the training field, he would only warm up and leave.
But his performance in both Taijutsu and Ninjutsu amazed them.
Thanks to his efficient training and actual combat in dreams, Kaien improved rapidly.
Now, he no longer resembled a Jonin who risked his life for simple missions.
He was becoming a warrior honed by countless battles.
However, he still couldn't learn Mangekyō-specific techniques.
His Kaleidoscope had yet to awaken a unique power.
Kaien wasn't in a rush. He waited patiently.
After all, his eyes had been infused with the power of three Mangekyō users.
His ocular strength was immense—and still growing.
Now, even by doing nothing, Kaien was getting stronger.
And every night, he sparred with Fugaku, Shisui, and Itachi in dreams.
His journey of growth had only just begun.
….
