The city pulsed with a restless energy as Kai and Aria emerged from the underground chamber, the weight of the broken seal heavy on their shoulders. The night air was thick, charged with anticipation.
"We triggered something," Aria said, eyes scanning the horizon. "Something old and dangerous."
Kai clenched his fists, feeling the lingering heat of the flames still simmering in his palms. "The Shroud won't wait. They'll come for us soon."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the distant wail of sirens shattered the silence. Shadows lengthened and twisted, coalescing into figures soldiers of the Shroud, clad in dark armor and glowing sigils.
"Move!" Aria urged, pulling Kai into the alley.
They ran, hearts pounding, footsteps echoing against concrete walls. Behind them, the Shroud's forces closed in, relentless and unforgiving.
Kai's power flared. Flames erupted from his fingertips, carving a fiery path through their pursuers. Aria moved like a shadow herself, striking with deadly precision, her silver blade flashing.
But numbers overwhelmed them. A blast knocked Kai to the ground, pain radiating through his side. Aria shouted, "Kai!"
Desperation fueled their fight as the city became a battleground. The night sky blazed with fire and steel, and the fate of the Gate and their lives hung by a thread.
