Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: The Dark Cloud After Victory

"Want to die?" Feeling the rising heat from Tang Qi's body, Chu Xun's heart tightened. He sneered, and with a forceful pull of his bloodied right arm, he ruthlessly threw Tang Qi away.

*Crack!*

With a sickening snap, the already broken bone in Tang Qi's wrist was completely torn off by Chu Xun, and his entire body was lifted like a ragdoll and flung far away.

"No!" Tang Qi hadn't expected Chu Xun to sense danger so acutely. By the time he realized what had happened, his left hand was severed at the wrist, and his body was slammed into a massive tree.

The immense impact sent a series of bone-cracking sounds throughout Tang Qi's body. But compared to the excruciating pain, it was the rising temperature inside him that truly filled him with despair.

Once self-detonation was triggered, it couldn't be stopped, meaning he was done for.

*Boom!*

As Tang Qi let out a despairing and furious roar, fiery hot flames began to spew from his eyes, ears, mouth, nose, and even his backside. His cracked, charred skin turned a deep red, making him look like a man who had been scorched by intense heat.

Soon, his frail body could no longer contain the rising temperature, and it exploded with a tremendous blast.

The violent explosion transformed Tang Qi's body into a massive fireball with a diameter of about three meters, while a shockwave carrying flames spread outward. In front of this devastating force, the trees that had stood for who knows how many years were toppled one by one like dominoes, and soon, they caught fire and burned fiercely.

"Damn, this guy is tough..." After the shockwave was weakened by numerous trees, it only left behind a gust of hot wind when it reached Chu Xun. But seeing the scorched trees ahead, he couldn't help but gasp.

Damn, this cursed world doesn't have any easy opponents. The Wolf King's guards were tough, and this guy, who came out of nowhere, is no different. If I hadn't reacted in time, I'd probably have died countless times already.

But just as he thought this, pain surged through his body again, forcing a groan from his lips. Though the flames on his body had mostly extinguished after Tang Qi's death, the severe burns he suffered were far from healed. His skin was now completely charred, emitting a strange smell like roasted meat, leaving him looking more like a burnt corpse pulled from a fire than a living person.

What truly made Chu Xun unable to bear it, however, was not the intense pain, but the spreading sensation of itching all over his body. It felt as though countless ants were gnawing on his flesh, and the agony was nearly unbearable.

However, as this intense itching spread, the searing pain from the flames began to fade, and his throat, once unbearably dry and scorched, felt much better. Clearly, his injuries were starting to heal.

"Thank goodness, it's uncomfortable, but at least it's not fatal..." Chu Xun sighed with relief, sensing his injuries improving.

Then, he turned his head to look at the spot where the mutated wolf king had fallen. To his surprise, the mutated wolf king was already lying on the ground, covered in wounds, and surrounded by the bodies of numerous mutated gray wolves.

The wolves' deaths were gruesome, most of them pierced through the chest or had their skulls torn apart. Deep red blood mixed with pale brain matter, spreading like a river of blood across the ground.

The cause of this bloody scene was none other than Chu Xun's trump card — the *Xenomorph*!

After a series of bloody battles, the Xenomorph, which had consumed vast amounts of flesh and some crystal cores, finally reached its perfect form. Now about 2.4 meters tall, its streamlined body glinted with a metallic black sheen under the sunlight, giving it an unusual beauty.

"Nice work!" Chu Xun's eyes lit up as he saw the mutated wolf king lying under the Xenomorph's feet, riddled with bullet-like holes, though its chest was still slowly rising and falling. His heart eased as he thought, *Thank goodness, the most important target wasn't lost!*

*Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!*

At the same time, a series of loud explosions came from the back of the hill, shaking the entire mountain as if an earthquake had struck. The tremors came quickly and disappeared just as fast, but the force behind them was enough to leave a lasting impression.

Strangely, after this powerful tremor, the wolf pack that had been attacking Satellite Town No. 4 suddenly lost its cohesion and went into disarray. Within moments, the wolves began to scatter, fleeing into the dense forest.

"This..." Seeing the wolves running like scattered dogs, Chu Xun was slightly startled. He squinted, then had a rough idea of what had happened.

One reason the wolves fled was that their leader, the mutated wolf king, had been killed by Chu Kuangren. Without a leader, the mutant gray wolves had no choice but to retreat.

But to have taken down a third-tier mutated wolf king in such a short time — Chu Kuangren's strength was terrifying.

Thinking of this, Chu Xun couldn't help but twitch his eye.

It's well-known that the higher the tier of a dangerous creature, the bigger the difference between each tier. A first-tier creature might destroy an elite ten-man team, while a second-tier mutated creature could wipe out a thousand-man army. As for third-tier creatures, they were true enemies of ten-thousand-man armies. No one could stand against them.

Moreover, due to their exceptional life force and some other special factors, high-tier dangerous creatures were usually stronger than comparable human experts. To have dealt with a mutated wolf king so quickly meant that Chu Kuangren's strength was at least in the fourth tier!

Above the fourth tier lay the true experts of this world. A fourth-tier expert could establish a city and rule over it, given decent luck.

No wonder Chu Kuangren had so much authority — his power was already at this level!

*Boom!*

Just as Chu Xun was mulling over this, a golden flash suddenly shot toward him, crashing down like a heavy artillery shell, creating a deep crater in the hard ground. The resulting wind and sand swirled around, making it impossible to see anything.

Once the dust settled, Chu Kuangren's figure appeared before Chu Xun.

At that moment, Chu Kuangren's heavily muscled body was covered in wounds, looking grisly and bloodied. But upon closer inspection, these were only superficial injuries, and they were healing rapidly. It wouldn't be long before he fully recovered.

What drew attention, however, was the massive wolf king's head that Chu Kuangren held in his hand. The long, knife-like fangs, gleaming with a silver metallic shine, seemed to demand all the attention.

"Hahaha, you still want to fight me? Dream on!" Laughing loudly, Chu Kuangren held up the wolf king's head. "This was a great haul! Not only did I capture a mutated wolf king alive, but I also got a pair of wolf king fangs. I bet the magicians will be furious when they find out. Hahahaha!"

"Wolf king fangs!" Seeing the fangs in Chu Kuangren's hand and the immobile mutated wolf king nearby, the bounty hunters within Satellite Town No. 4 turned green with envy.

The wolf king's fangs were precious biological materials, with power comparable to third-tier alloy weapons. After processing, if activated, these fangs could be used to create fourth-tier weapons — their value was beyond measure.

As for the mutated wolf king, it was an even more valuable experimental material. Its worth was even higher than the wolf king's fangs.

These two items were enough to make anyone covet them, but when they thought of Chu Kuangren's terrifying strength and the image of the Xenomorph slaughtering wolves, the bounty hunters couldn't help but shiver. Seeing Chu Xun, looking like a charred corpse, only served to extinguish their greed.

It was this guy who, without knowing Tang Qi's background, killed "Ghostfire," a figure known in the bounty hunter circles. His mad behavior during the battle was almost unbelievable, and they definitely didn't want to face such a madman.

"Hahaha, look at you!" When Chu Kuangren saw Chu Xun's miserable state, he couldn't help but laugh and slapped him on the shoulder. "But this is good. The bigger the setback, the faster you grow!"

"Damn..." Chu Xun winced as Chu Kuangren slapped his shoulder. His eyes nearly teared up from the pain. But to his surprise, the slap didn't hurt at all. In fact, it seemed to inject a refreshing yet powerful energy into his body.

This energy was incredibly soothing, making him feel clearer and purer. As it spread through his body, the burning sensation from earlier faded considerably. Clearly, Chu Kuangren was healing him.

"Master..." Feeling this, Chu Xun's heart warmed, and he wanted to thank Chu Kuangren. But before he could say anything, he suddenly noticed a slight, almost imperceptible, shift in Chu Kuangren's usually cheerful expression.

Though Chu Kuangren quickly masked it, Chu Xun still kept it in his mind.

Whatever was worrying Chu Kuangren, it was most likely related to Wolf Fang City.

*Grind!*

Just as Chu Xun pondered this, a horrible screeching sound came from the direction of Satellite Town No. 4. Slowly, the massive stone gate of
