Chapter 3 - The Dark Crown

"So now I have a ghost haunting me?" Lucius asked.

"Hahaha... No, boy. That will not be happening, so you do not need to worry," replied the old orb.

"Will not be happening? Why is that?" asked Lucius.

"That's because my spirit is now fading, which I have bound with you. Instead, the spirit will be consumed and used to form something which will train you in following this path of cultivation."

"This Obsidian Throne is very prestigious. I will not easily hand it over to an ignored brat like you without proper trials. The Obsidian Throne will be something which will only be decided by the power on when to give it to you. Till then, you will need to work very hard and try your best to learn everything you can."

"You will need to explore this world yourself. Understand its difficulties. Build your power so that you do not get swatted here and there like a fly. Good luck, young brat."

Said the old orb, as it glitched into nothingness.

Suddenly, the throne started to sink into the deep ocean of the mind sea.

Now, Lucius was standing in an ocean, nothing nearby except his spiritual root.

Everything gone.

Seeing all of this, Lucius decided to come out and see what 'power' he received to train himself.

At that moment, suddenly, a purple-black system screen appeared in front of Lucius. It looked stylish and had a cool obsidian crown designed on top of it.

[System Features]

▶ Quests

▷ Status Options

▷ Comprehension Assistance (locked)

▷ Virtual Battles (locked)

▷ Technique Generation (locked)

▷ Technique Upgrade Module (locked)

Seeing such features, Lucius sighed.

"So, at the end, the system will truly only 'assist' me, huh?" he spoke in a slow voice.

What Lucius didn't know, however, was that as long as he kept getting stronger and doing many things, the system would keep rewarding him with quests, never making him lack any. The system would analyze his life all the time and keep on throwing in quests to develop him.

And the last three modules were truly overpowered. Imagine being able to get battle experience without even going out to fight. And the Technique Generation and Technique Upgrade Module were also equally broken in one way or another, even if they might be imposed with many limitations.

"Lucius! Lucius, my son! Oh heavens! It's good that you've woken up!" suddenly came a voice.

Lucius turned his hand subconsciously as if trying to make the system screen vanish.

"Lucius, what is it, my child? Are there any flies here?" asked Ariya.

She was truly worried for Lucius. After all, he was their only child and the heir to the Patriarch's throne. Along with that, even if he was only six months old, it didn't matter to them. They worked hard for him and truly loved him with all their heart.

In the world of cultivation, having a child for cultivators was truly rare.

For comparison, an average cultivator couple at the Refinement Realm had a 1 in 5000 chance of having a baby. So, it could've taken them at worst ten years to finally have a child. They had already found themselves lucky enough to have the child after only four years of trying.

Ariya was 29 years old, and Logan was 31.

They were both of a similar age. Ariya was a beautiful girl who came from a strong noble family of a Viscount. But due to the war of the Blackthorns, the patriarch of that family had sacrificed his family's whole power in return for having Ariya safe.

The only thing he wanted was protection for Ariya's blood relatives, which Logan complied with and allowed them to shelter in the city. Logan promised them to fund them enough to start a merchant company with which the Blackthorns would actively trade, and even help the family return to Viscount-level power when the Blackthorns might rise again.

Ariya and Logan loved each other very much. Ariya had come from a vassal family of the Blackthorns, the Slakes. Ariya Slakes, at that time, had already fallen in love with Logan, but due to the status differences, she distanced herself respectfully from him.

Logan, on the other hand, was someone who was very understanding and already knew that the girl liked him.

After all, a 14-year-old girl in love with a 16-year-old man — how could she truly hide it from him?

One day, Logan had made a move on he, and she had also wholeheartedly accepted him.

Behind Ariya, Logan also walked in.

"It's good that you have woken up, son. And from the way you look, I can assume that you are feeling healthy as well?" asked Logan with a smile as he came close and picked up Lucius. Lucius was small enough for him to hold gently.

"I'm feeling good, Father," replied Lucius.

Hearing his words, Logan became surprised and quickly asked, "Father? Didn't you used to call me 'Papa'? Also, how did your Azurian become so good?"

Hearing his voice, Lucius noticed something. He suddenly started to feel very noble. His Azurian language—the language spoken on the Azure Continent—also started to slowly become very familiar to him, his grammar becoming very good. He also started to notice his surroundings, and the feeling of 'home' started to set in him.

"—I-I don't know what you are talking about, Father," he replied. He guessed that this was probably because of the system.

Lucius decided not to get angry with whatever the system did to him as long as it was good for him. After all, he didn't know what would've happened to him if he didn't have this power right now.

"Oh? Fine, if you want to keep calling me Father, then that's alright with me as well," he said as he started taking Lucius away.

"Where are you taking him, dear?" asked Ariya as she hugged Logan from behind and asked with a smile.

"We need to give him a complete tour of the mansion. We also need to introduce the staff to him, along with showing him to the elders. After all, after me, Lucius would be the one to manage the clan while I'll be working as an elder along with others," said Logan.

In the clans of the Continent of Azure, there was a very simple system. When a patriarch has been decided, it cannot be changed until the patriarch is deemed incapable of working anymore. If the patriarch is killed, the elders are supposed to be the prime suspects. In such cases, if the true culprit is not found, the empire can also be involved in the investigation.

A patriarch can only step down under two conditions:

The patriarch is deemed incapable with substantial proof from the accusing side, with no strong proof from the patriarch's side.

If the patriarch continues to refuse to step down, the empire is allowed to force the patriarch to do it. At that time, the patriarch would not even be allowed to remain an elder; instead, he would become a normal member of the clan...

The son of the patriarch is deemed more capable than the current one, and both the patriarch and the son agree with the procedure.

'Woah... I would become the patriarch of a whole clan?! Wouldn't that be too awesome?' Lucius thought.

'But won't becoming the patriarch bind me to the—' Lucius was about to think something when another thought came to his mind.

'Now this is interesting... With the system, I could truly achieve that... Hehehe...' thought Lucius.

Meanwhile, his grin had also leaked outside. Luckily, no one noticed it.

He then opened the status window, as this was the only option other than missions right now.

A.N. >>> The Webnovel has received a complete rewrite (it has only 11 chapters anyway) since there were a few problems would needed to be addressed.

- The Pacing was too fast.

- The Female lead was introduced too quickly.

- The Grammar Errors that I fixed led to the novel looking unnatural.

- There was no heart in the Novel's Later chapters

- The story line started to crap out.

- There was too fast Progress, the Obsidian-Throne concept was too Complicated and overpowered.

>>> Anyway, now I have fixed these issues and will be reuploading new chapters slowly.

>>> This time,I will not rewrite it again, and will give my full heart in each chapter I create.

>>> Please support this webnovel by sharing it with others and offering Power Stones so that this work reaches others as well.

>>> The concept of the Obsidian Laws will remain the same; everything is just coming to its right place now.
