Obito had completely forgotten about Kakashi's promotion gift—after all, it wasn't like giving a present to Rin. Forgetting Kakashi's gift was perfectly normal.
Obito secretly glanced at Shindai.
Luckily there was Shindai as a backup.
"I'm giving you this—my Flying Thunder God Kunai. It might feel a bit heavy at first, but once you get used to it, it'll work great."
Minato Namikaze pulled out a brand-new Flying Thunder God Kunai and handed it to Kakashi.
Shindai twitched his lips and muttered, "What kind of thing becomes hard to use *after* you get used to it? That makes no sense!"
Minato pressed his lips together. When it came to ruining the mood, Shindai was definitely the strongest he'd ever seen!
Kakashi accepted Minato's Flying Thunder God Kunai. "Thank you, sensei."
"This is from me."
Rin Nohara pulled a small box from her gear bag. "It's an individual medical kit—all upgraded and easy to use."
She passed her gift over to Kakashi.
After receiving it, Kakashi thanked her, "Thanks, Rin."
And then…
Kakashi turned toward Obito and held out his hand.
Obito's heart skipped a beat. Pretending not to understand, he asked, "What are you doing with your hand like that?"
"The gift."
Obito guiltily looked away sideways. "Giving gifts is so overrated. Just saying congrats is enough! See how Shindai didn't bring anything either…"
"Here, this is your gift."
Shindai tossed something toward Kakashi.
Catching it, Kakashi examined the object curiously. "What is this?"
"It's a monocle I developed," Shindai answered. "It works with your new Ninjutsu. Try putting it on—you'll see how it works. There's a button built into the frame."
Kakashi put the monocle on and pressed the button on its frame.
Instantly, everyone in his vision now had a red outline around them.
Shindai explained, "That red outline highlights enemies. Since your new technique is so fast, during attacks you sometimes fail to track enemy movements due to poor dynamic vision. With this targeting feature, you won't have to worry about missing their actions anymore."
Shindai's gift hit Kakashi right where it mattered most. His Chidori was already complete, but its flaw was exactly what Shindai pointed out—it moved so fast that during attacks, he sometimes failed to follow enemy movements due to poor dynamic vision.
Still, Kakashi felt puzzled. "How did you know my new Ninjutsu had this exact flaw?"
"Uh..."
Shindai was immediately at a loss for words. He even knew the name of Kakashi's new jutsu—Chidori!
Shindai said with a grin, "Didn't you say earlier that you wanted to create a new technique by combining your Lightning Release? Since lightning is all about speed, and I noticed your vision isn't so hot lately, I figured I'd make these glasses as a gift for you. Ugh, stop being such a pain! If you don't like them, just give them back!"
Kakashi looked at Shindai in confusion. Why did he suddenly get so worked up like that?
It was just a casual question from him; even if Shindai didn't answer, he wouldn't have said anything more.
"Thanks, Shindai."
Kakashi put away the monocle.
As Kakashi was about to turn his gaze toward Obito again, Obito quickly pulled Shindai aside.
"You didn't know Kakashi got promoted to jonin, right? Then why did you prepare a gift? You're making me look bad!"
Shindai smiled slightly at Obito. "Exactly. You forgot to get Kakashi a gift and hoped that since I was here—and supposedly didn't know Kakashi had been promoted either—I wouldn't have prepared one either. That way, you could skip out on it, right?"
Obito's eyes went wide in disbelief. "Are you reading my damn mind or something?!"
Shindai snapped back, "Like hell it's mind reading! Your thoughts are obvious to everyone!"
Obito started patting Shindai down frantically. "C'mon, do you have anything good on you? Lemme borrow it real quick, or Kakashi'll think even less of me!"
Shindai shoved Obito away. "Stop grope-fisting me! What the hell—you going for my junk?! I don't have anything useful on me anyway, and even if I did, I'd keep it far from you! Besides, Kakashi already looks down on you 24/7—who cares if it's one more time?"
Kakashi said with a weird tone, "Forget it, I don't want some people's 'gifts' anyway—they aren't even worth the space in my pouch."
Obito's face instantly turned red. "Who says I don't have one! I'm giving mine right now!"
With a fierce expression, Obito stomped over and stood in front of Kakashi. He reached into his ninja gear pouch and pulled out a shuriken, pressing it into Kakashi's palm.
Kakashi stared at the shuriken in his hand, confused. "You're giving me a shuriken as a gift?"
Obito declared proudly, "Minato-sensei can give kunai as a present, so why can't I give a shuriken?"
Kakashi gave Obito his dead-fish stare. "That kunai Minato-sensei gave was a Flying Thunder God Kunai—it had his unique style. What special feature does your shuriken have?"
Obito held his chin high. "How isn't it special? This shuriken's been marinating in my stank in my ninja gear pouch! Isn't that unique enough?"
Kakashi's face twisted into disgust as he stared at the shuriken. "Is there any way I can just... decline this gift?"
Obito shouted loudly, "Absolutely not! This is my gift—you must accept it!"
Pinching it by the very tip, Kakashi shoved the shuriken into his own ninja gear pouch.
Seeing Kakashi's reaction, Obito was furious.
Why do you look so disgusted? It's... it's my heartfelt offering!
Shindai stepped in front of Kakashi, Obito, and Rin Nohara, digging out three necklaces. "I'll give you one more gift."
Obito picked up the necklace from Shindai's hand, examining it curiously. "Hmm, looks like a pocket watch..."
As Obito tried to open the lid, Shindai pressed down his hand. "Go ahead and open it—if you're ready to die."
Obito immediately let go, scared stiff.
Got weak hands or something? Can't even hold onto one little thing.
Shindai picked it up again and shoved it back into Obito's hand.
Clutching the necklace again, Obito muttered defensively, "You just scared me! This isn't just a regular necklace, is it? It must have some kind of hidden mechanism!"
Shindai nodded. "You finally showed some sense. When you encounter something urgent that you can't handle immediately, channel your chakra into this. The internal mechanism will help you."
He passed the remaining two necklaces to Kakashi and Rin Nohara.
Addressing Minato Namikaze, Shindai said, "Lord Minato Namikaze is already so powerful, so I didn't prepare one for you."
Minato smiled. "It's fine."
Seeing how much Shindai valued his comrades, Minato felt genuinely pleased.
Never take them off—no matter what happens.
Obito looked worried. "What if I roll over while sleeping and accidentally open it?"
Shindai stared at him blankly. "If you're clumsy enough to activate it while sleeping, you deserve what you get."
