Chapter 12 - gifting daos

Now understandably I didn't have much expectation that anyone would achieve a dao at all let alone on the first day. Even with me simplifying it in terms they can understand it and only giving them the bear minimum of background info it should still take days of them being taught for hours on end for them to get a real understanding of the topics. if anything the first day was more to go over what the chosen subject actually was then actually teaching them the specific ins and out. So when the first day is finally getting wrapped up 21 of the potential disciplines (test subjects) already gone and the toddler starts floating off into sky i'm understandable confused.

Now this confusion only last for a instant before I dash over and grab him stopping him from floating off into the clouds as his mother is still stuck staring in amassment along with the guard and little girl.

"How did he do that!"

the little girl snaps out of her surprise first, as if awakened by her speaking the mother rushes forward to grab the child from my arms in tears unsure if she should be proud or terrified, the toddler to his own credit has not stopping smugly giggling since unlocking his dao, and the guard well the guard is throwing a silent hissy fit that the other guards didn't stick around to see this.

I take a seat and motion for everyone else to do the same before I start answering theirconfusion

"The reason i decided to start taking discipline was to test a theory of mine, dispite having a perfect understanding of several subjects I wasn't able to achieve any daos whose only requirement should be understanding them. So a thought crossed my what if the reason I wasn't able to achieve a dao wasn't because I don't understand enough but because my constitution isn't recognized as being capable of achieving one? so I decided to try imparting my understanding of a variety of different subjects to volunteers in order to see if any of them could deveop a dao based on my understaing. And as you can see by the toddler achieving what I assume is the dao of gravity it appears that even a part of my understanding is enough to achieve a dao meaning my constitution is the problem and not my intellegence."

The vindication on his understanding of everything not being wrong and instead this power system like qi simply being incapabdable with him was ecstatic. Yeah it meant that he wouldn't be able to use dao but who cares? If he can grant people daos just by teaching them well he could just have others use them for him, with this power he could speed along the singularity by years maybe even construct a new body in the span of a decade and from there he only needed to work on the processor.

guard:"does this mean we can all get dao as long as we listen to you?"

village girl:"does this mean your wont teach us any more?"

mother:"does this mean you'll take this child as your student?"

1 year old:"sound of pants being defected in "

All 4 of them speak at once talking over each other, well 3 of them the toddler just pooped himself. Honestly its impressive that he managed to go so long without doing it weve been here for a pretty long time.

"what are your names?, it occurs to me that i've never bothered to learn them and I doubt any of you plan to give up now after today so its important that I learn them."

The kid and guard smile at this picking up the hint, the mother doesn't and the toddlars started crying at this point .

the guard bows and the girl follows, the mother puppets the still crying toddler into doing the same.

guard: "this discipline greats his master, I am Rain Xue"

village girl: "this discipline greats her master, I'm mai no family name"

mother: "this little one greats his master, his name is shin.... oh and i'm called tasi"

the rain taps tasi on the shoulder and whispers in her ear that she's also been chosen as a discipline, explaining thats what they were asked to introduce themselves. Tasi finally understanding whats going on looks suprised and is flooded with disbelief but before anything can continue I pull out a block of soild wood from the ground beneath me and open it up reveling salted meats, hardtack, punches of water, and some BLOOD soup its time to eat.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the next few days they live out in the plains learning, eating,or sleeping at all times. I make a few trips back to the village in order to get supplies for the toddler or help out during lunch breaks but outside of that i'm always with them. Well always with them when theyre awaken, whenever they sleep I head off to continue my own research on martial arts.

originally I had just planned to teach them evertyhing about but shin proved that unnecessary so I change up my strategy to teach them the core parts of each subject without teaching them the fundamentals or l base workings and instead having them experience it. For tasi this is pretty easy, I just throw her really hard off of nearby hills and plans have her explain why shes falling. Yes the first dozen times the only thing that comes out of her mouth are screams but after she starts understanding that shes not in any danger as long as I'm here she gradually starts talking how she's not actually falling she's just being pulled downward by the largest mass in the area. maybe its because she already had an example in shin or maybe the gravity is just really easy to understand once you've had it explained but she ends up achieving it on the 2nd day. Weirdly it doesn't work the same way shin's does instead of her gently floating off the ground she's pulled at 9.807m/s^2 in a direction of her choosing, this also lets her come to a stop while falling by choosing to be pulled upwards why the planet also pulls her downward leading to her stoping in mid air with no damage from the momentum of the fall (getting her to try this took a lot of convincing). After shes allowed to go home with shin until the others finish their training

The next one to gain a dao was mai: I had been hands off with her training, I crafted her a stick shaped into a perfect circle and tasked her with making bigger perfect circles on the ground using it. The entire time answering her questions about unrelated and related subjects all the same. after a few days of this she started making perfect circles without needing the circumference measuring tool, and then she made them without needing to move at all. Its an ability that seems lacking for a dao but hopefully its powers can be expanded on later, I send her back a day after shin and tasi leaving only rain.

Rains training is pretty immoral but regular explanations weren't doing it and hes experienced light his entire life and still doesn't understand it so drastic measures are necessary. I flash patterns of different repeating lights in his eyes to trigger visual hallucinations and have him describe what they are and why they're false while he's still experiencing them. after a few hours of this i seal him in a wooden box with no light at all for an hour at a time explaining more about how photons work before repeating the process. after a day of this with no food or water he finally achieves his dao and creates a illusion out of light.
